Mary Kathryn Kyle, 89, of Somerset, passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at the Jean Waddle Care Center of Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She was born on December 14, 1923 in Ferguson, Ky., to the late Marcellus M. Haynes and Ethel Clark Haynes. She was married to the late Ernest Young whom she married on August 6, 1942 in Somerset. She later married James Kyle, who preceded her in death.
She was an office/stock clerk for Roses and later retired from K-Mart. She was a member of the Denham Street Baptist Church where she attended as long as her health permitted. She loved her church and church family.Among many things she enjoyed were traveling when she was able and embroidering, cooking and tending to her flowers.
Mary is survived by her children, Janet Spangler (and Donald) of Lexington, Lois Ann Phelps (and Roy Lee), Virginia Whitaker (and Darrell), Bert Young (and Arlene), all of Somerset and a special caregiver, Betty Smith. who was like a daughter; brother Charles Haynes (and Lois). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Melinda Clark (and Dave) of Louisville, Robyn Bradley (and Scot),
Jimmy Young (and Shellie) all of Nancy, Jeffery Phelps (and Tonya), Stephen Whitaker and Stephanie Cable (and Randy) all of Somerset. Also surviving are six
great-grandchildren, Chandra (and Joe) Mason, Logan Phelps, Kellie Cable, Jessica Cable, Dakota Bradley and Holden Clark; two great-great-grandchildren, Wynter Mason and Hunter Mason; daughter-in-law, Dinah Young; two sisters-in-law Buddie Haynes and Pearl Haynes; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by son, Jimmie Young; brothers: Roy, Frank, Howard, Glenn, Willard, Felix "Marcy" Haynes; and sister Wilma Kennedy. Eugene, Irene and Marie Haynes died in infancy.
Visitation for Mary Kathryn will be Saturday, December 14, 2013 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking and Crematory.
A celebration honoring the life of Mary Kathryn will follow at 1 p.m. with Bros. Jeff Griffith, Jamie Taylor and David Muse officiating.
Interment will be at Somerset Cemetery.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, Ky., 42503.

Viola Keith Nicholas was born Sept. 5, 1921 to the late William and Alice Jones Keith and she departed this life to her eternal home on April 7, 2014, having attained the age of 92 years.
She was a devoted wife to the late Wesley Nicholas for 50 years. She was a faithful member at Grave Hill Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School class for many years. She retired from the Pulaski County Board of Education. After retirement she served as a foster grandparent at Oakwood Training Facility for special needs children. She also volunteered at the Burnside Elementary preschool program, giving her time, talents and love to the 3 and 4 year old children whom she adored.
Viola is survived by two daughters, Diana (and Austin) Alton, and Tana (and Tom) Chesney; one son, Rex Nicholas; and three brothers, Robert (and Barbara) Keith, Danny (and Ann) Keith, and David (and Ellen) Keith.
She was also blessed with many grandchildren and all were special to her.
Other than her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Nicholas and Gale Nicholas; two grandsons, Ricky Alton and Michael Nicholas; a granddaughter, Karen Alton Cogdill; and the following siblings: Alicie Super, Emerine Neeley, Mattie Keith, Maggie Godsey, Bertha Duncan, Clara Helton, Otis Keith, Clora Hardwick, Vergie Keith, Grover Keith, Mertie Yeskie, Lowell Keith, Joyce Sellers, Bill Keith, and Jim Keith; and the following step-siblings: Murphy Owens, Geneva Hill, Louise Fritts, and Reva Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Darry Hatfield and Bro. Doyle Worley officiating.
Burial will follow in the Grave Hill Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Viola Keith Nicholas will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014.
