Betty Joyce Richards Burton, age 76, was granted her angel wings on Jan. 3, 2014 at her residence. Betty's life would seem too short to many, but those who knew her understood that the quality of life far exceeds the amount of time in which one lives. Her sweet loving smile, huge giving heart and very outgoing personality brought so much joy to her family and friends. Although at times being weak and frail, she gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.
She loved spending time with family, watching UK Basketball, fishing, yard selling and going to church. She was a member for over 30 years at Gospel Tabernacle Church.
She was born on March 15, 1937 in Somerset, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tolbert and Lura Richards; her husband, Mark Burton; son, Johnny Burton; two daughters, Doris Allen and Bonna Burton; one son-in-law, Richard Roark; one brother, James Richards; and one sister, Carolyn Gibson.
She is survived by two brothers, Ray (Betty) Richards of Somerset, Ky. and BJ (Erma) Richards of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Waide Burton of Somerset, Ky. and Dennis (Penny) Bolin of Ind.; and six daughters, Donna (Billy) Vanhook of Somerset, Ky., Violet (Johnny) Rose of Somerset, Ky., Wanda (Kevin) Dunn of Danville, Ky., Mary (Ronnie) Dagley of Somerset, Ky., Tammy (Jackie) Loveless of Somerset, Ky., Lisa Roark of Somerset, Ky., and Edith (Virgil) Baker of Nicholasville, Ky.
She had 27 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 after 6 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks FuneralHome.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Dunbar and Bro. Jeff Phillips officiating.
Burial will be in the Somerset Cemetery.
Dallis Hutcheson, age 76, of Ferguson, Ky. passed away on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

Alpheen Kidd, age 74, of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Alpheen was born on Nov. 12, 1939, in King Bee, Ky., to the late Albert C. and Ollie Mae Foster Young. She married Carl Kidd in Somerset on Jan. 14, 1961. They have two daughters from their union. Alpheen was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her daughters, Rita (and Benny) Dick, of Science Hill, Ky., and Donna Kidd, of Somerset, Ky.; two sisters, Christine Ping and Nina Fagel, both of Somerset, Ky.; three grandchildren, Christopher Kidd, Stacy (and Larry) Kidd Meece, and Robby (and April) Rees; and many great-grandchildren, Amber Meece, Aaliyah Meece, Devin Meece, Elijah Meece, Josiah Meece, Judah Meece, Glory Meece and Shalom Meece.
Alpheen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; a sister, Rosa New Roy; and her four brothers, Bee Young, Elmer Young, Clayton Young and Dale Young.
Visitation for Alpheen will be on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
Her funeral service will be on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at 12 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Bro. R.B. Griffin officiating.
Interment will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery.
Howard Samuel Roberts, age 86 of the Bronston community, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on Feb. 3, 1927 in the Betsey Community of Wayne County, Ky. to the late Ben and Margaret Black Roberts. He was a retired self-employed homebuilder and a member of Faith United
Baptist Church in Monticello, Ky. Howard was a joyful giver and enjoyed working, doing lawn work and being with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Lewis Roberts.
Howard is survived by his wife, Lois Bolin Roberts, whom he married on June 1, 1967 in Tenn.; one son, Delynn Gibson of the Slate Branch community; three daughters, Reba (Larry) Crabtree of Monticello, Ky., Carol Sue (Benny Jr.) Dobbs of Fort Polk, La., and Diana (Kenneth) Ball of McCreary County, Ky.
Howard enjoyed six grandchildren, Cody Gibson, Dustin Smith and Justin Smith, Heather Dobbs-Whittington, Melody Lay and Charles Ball Sr.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by Sharon Cox, Andrea Simpson and Deby Coffey, all of Monticello, Ky., who were like daughters to Howard.
Additionally, he is survived by his good friend, Juan Pottin, of Somerset, Ky.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 after 3 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Daniel Richardson and Bro. Bill Haynes officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Southern Oaks Cemetery.

Viola Keith Nicholas was born Sept. 5, 1921 to the late William and Alice Jones Keith and she departed this life to her eternal home on April 7, 2014, having attained the age of 92 years.
She was a devoted wife to the late Wesley Nicholas for 50 years. She was a faithful member at Grave Hill Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School class for many years. She retired from the Pulaski County Board of Education. After retirement she served as a foster grandparent at Oakwood Training Facility for special needs children. She also volunteered at the Burnside Elementary preschool program, giving her time, talents and love to the 3 and 4 year old children whom she adored.
Viola is survived by two daughters, Diana (and Austin) Alton, and Tana (and Tom) Chesney; one son, Rex Nicholas; and three brothers, Robert (and Barbara) Keith, Danny (and Ann) Keith, and David (and Ellen) Keith.
She was also blessed with many grandchildren and all were special to her.
Other than her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Nicholas and Gale Nicholas; two grandsons, Ricky Alton and Michael Nicholas; a granddaughter, Karen Alton Cogdill; and the following siblings: Alicie Super, Emerine Neeley, Mattie Keith, Maggie Godsey, Bertha Duncan, Clara Helton, Otis Keith, Clora Hardwick, Vergie Keith, Grover Keith, Mertie Yeskie, Lowell Keith, Joyce Sellers, Bill Keith, and Jim Keith; and the following step-siblings: Murphy Owens, Geneva Hill, Louise Fritts, and Reva Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Darry Hatfield and Bro. Doyle Worley officiating.
Burial will follow in the Grave Hill Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Viola Keith Nicholas will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014.
