Betty Joyce Richards Burton, age 76, was granted her angel wings on Jan. 3, 2014 at her residence. Betty's life would seem too short to many, but those who knew her understood that the quality of life far exceeds the amount of time in which one lives. Her sweet loving smile, huge giving heart and very outgoing personality brought so much joy to her family and friends. Although at times being weak and frail, she gave us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.
She loved spending time with family, watching UK Basketball, fishing, yard selling and going to church. She was a member for over 30 years at Gospel Tabernacle Church.
She was born on March 15, 1937 in Somerset, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tolbert and Lura Richards; her husband, Mark Burton; son, Johnny Burton; two daughters, Doris Allen and Bonna Burton; one son-in-law, Richard Roark; one brother, James Richards; and one sister, Carolyn Gibson.
She is survived by two brothers, Ray (Betty) Richards of Somerset, Ky. and BJ (Erma) Richards of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons, Waide Burton of Somerset, Ky. and Dennis (Penny) Bolin of Ind.; and six daughters, Donna (Billy) Vanhook of Somerset, Ky., Violet (Johnny) Rose of Somerset, Ky., Wanda (Kevin) Dunn of Danville, Ky., Mary (Ronnie) Dagley of Somerset, Ky., Tammy (Jackie) Loveless of Somerset, Ky., Lisa Roark of Somerset, Ky., and Edith (Virgil) Baker of Nicholasville, Ky.
She had 27 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 after 6 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks FuneralHome.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Dunbar and Bro. Jeff Phillips officiating.
Burial will be in the Somerset Cemetery.
Dallis Hutcheson, age 76, of Ferguson, Ky. passed away on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

Alpheen Kidd, age 74, of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Alpheen was born on Nov. 12, 1939, in King Bee, Ky., to the late Albert C. and Ollie Mae Foster Young. She married Carl Kidd in Somerset on Jan. 14, 1961. They have two daughters from their union. Alpheen was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her daughters, Rita (and Benny) Dick, of Science Hill, Ky., and Donna Kidd, of Somerset, Ky.; two sisters, Christine Ping and Nina Fagel, both of Somerset, Ky.; three grandchildren, Christopher Kidd, Stacy (and Larry) Kidd Meece, and Robby (and April) Rees; and many great-grandchildren, Amber Meece, Aaliyah Meece, Devin Meece, Elijah Meece, Josiah Meece, Judah Meece, Glory Meece and Shalom Meece.
Alpheen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; a sister, Rosa New Roy; and her four brothers, Bee Young, Elmer Young, Clayton Young and Dale Young.
Visitation for Alpheen will be on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
Her funeral service will be on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at 12 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Bro. R.B. Griffin officiating.
Interment will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery.
Howard Samuel Roberts, age 86 of the Bronston community, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on Feb. 3, 1927 in the Betsey Community of Wayne County, Ky. to the late Ben and Margaret Black Roberts. He was a retired self-employed homebuilder and a member of Faith United
Baptist Church in Monticello, Ky. Howard was a joyful giver and enjoyed working, doing lawn work and being with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Lewis Roberts.
Howard is survived by his wife, Lois Bolin Roberts, whom he married on June 1, 1967 in Tenn.; one son, Delynn Gibson of the Slate Branch community; three daughters, Reba (Larry) Crabtree of Monticello, Ky., Carol Sue (Benny Jr.) Dobbs of Fort Polk, La., and Diana (Kenneth) Ball of McCreary County, Ky.
Howard enjoyed six grandchildren, Cody Gibson, Dustin Smith and Justin Smith, Heather Dobbs-Whittington, Melody Lay and Charles Ball Sr.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by Sharon Cox, Andrea Simpson and Deby Coffey, all of Monticello, Ky., who were like daughters to Howard.
Additionally, he is survived by his good friend, Juan Pottin, of Somerset, Ky.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 after 3 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Kelley Roberts, daughter of the late Stuart and Oma Rigney Kelly, was born on Saturday, April 21, 1934 in Wayne County, Ky. and she departed this life in Somerset, Ky. on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 having attained the age of 79 years, 8 months and 12 days.
She was united in marriage to Mr. Jesse Woodrow Roberts on Feb. 9, 1952 in Wayne County, Ky. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2007 after 55 years of marriage.
Survivors include three children, Portia (and Tommy) Maybrier and Pamela (and Darren) Barnett, all of Somerset, Ky., and one son, Danny Jesse (and Connie) Roberts of Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren, Andrew (and Angie) Maybrier, Wally (and Leah) Maybrier, Tracy (and Rick) McCrystal, Davin (and Bridget) Roberts, Cheyenne Barnett and Kelby Barnett; and nine great-grandchildren, Jakob, Seth, Lukas, Ian, and Laney Jo Maybrier, Kent and Katie Dalton, and Connor and Caine Roberts.
Other than her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by one brother, Elvie; and two sisters, Dorothy and Doris.
Mrs. Roberts worked for more than 17 years as a patient aide with Oakwood Training Facility in Somerset, Ky. Margaret enjoyed playing Bingo, and spending time with her family. She was a kind, loving person who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Butte officiating.
Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.

Paul Edward Stephens, age 65, of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2013 at his residence.
Paul was born on March 31, 1948, in Burnside, Ky., the son of the late Arthur Estes and Maudie Jane Cowan Stephens. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Army, and attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star for defending and saving his men in the line of fire. He was a member of the American Legion Post #38, D.A.V. and the V.F.W. Paul was a welder for the Lear Siegler Plant in Somerset.
Paul is survived by his wife, Emma Mae Stigall Stephens; his daughter, Tamara (and Joshua) Connell, of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Larry K. (and Carol) Stephens, of Elyria, Ohio; a sister, Betty J. (and Don) Fly, of Cleveland, Ohio; one grandson, Andrew Paul Connell, the pride and joy of his life; as well as 15 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five of his brothers, Alfred, Fred, Homer, Robert and Howard; and one sister, Geneva.
Visitation for Paul Edward Stephens will be Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at 6 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral service will be Tuesday, Jan.7, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Bro. Bobby Bell will officiate.

Mrs. Delores Ann Whitis, age 47, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at her home after a long illness.
She was born on June 6, 1966 in Columbus, Ind., the daughter of Glen and Eulia Patton Whitis of Somerset. She had been a technician for Mid State Automotive Company, she was a former auto salesperson, and she enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, motorcycles and many other outdoor sports. She also enjoyed helping people in need, and she was a member of the Walnut Grove Church of Christ.
Survivors besides her parents are several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; several very special friends, Fern and Otis Noe; and her most special friends, Shawn and Melody Stull and children.
She was preceded in death by four uncles and two aunts.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at Cox Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Ky. with minister Bro. Marvin Cromer officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Shawn Stull, Tyler Stull, Bradley Stull, Scottie Hayes, Danny Debord, and Bill, Koty, and Kristpher Whites.
Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5.
