Somerset — Sheila Bryant

Sheila Kay Bryant, 56, of Eubank, Ky., passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at her residence.

She was born in Corydon, Ind. on Feb. 22, 1957, daughter of Dorthy Bryant Foley and the late Paul Bryant. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her mother, Dorthy Bryant Foley of Waynesburg; one son, Thomas Hodge of Eubank; three daughters, Heather (and Brian) Angel of Waynesburg, Tonya (and Shane) New of Crab Orchard and Tina Shivel of Burnside; maternal grandmother, Millie Caldwell of Waynesburg; one brother, Henry Bryant of Waynesburg; two sisters, Paula Faye (and Bob) Weddle of Liberty and Shirley Bryant of Waynesburg; eight grandchildren, Zachary New, Johnathan New, Dallas New, Kara New, Danielle New, Latosha Hodge, Hallie Shivel and Ryan Angel; three special nieces, Kimberly Walls, Dana Denney and Sue Kates; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Bryant; stepfather, David Foley; and paternal grandparents, Jimmy G. and Hallie Bryant.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Melvin Caldwell officiating.

Burial will be in Salyers Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 10:30 a.m. today at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Ruby Casada

Ruby C. Casada (Tucker), age 83, of Oberlin, Ohio made her journey home with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain, Ohio following a brief illness.  

She owned and operated Moderne and Tuc's Beauty Salons in Oberlin, Ohio. She loved to quilt and sew. She donated her time to the Rest Home, Honor Flight, made hats for local cancer kids, she was a founding Member of the Oberlin Boys and Girls Club, and she was an active member of the Carlisle Grange.  

Mrs. Casada is survived by her children, Thomas Casada (Wendy), of Valley City, Ohio, Doris Young of Mt. Vernon, Washington, Nyle “Chubby” Casada of Oberlin, Ohio, and Beverly Muska (Ron) of Elyria, Ohio; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Hwy 80, Somerset, Ky.

Her funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Ulanda Price officiating.  

Burial will be at Bronston Baptist Cemetery.

Sylvia Dalton

Mrs. Sylvia Goldie Dalton, daughter of the late Homer and Desda Dema Dalton Dye, was born at Mintonville, Ky. on Oct. 24, 1929 and she departed this life on Oct. 25, 2013 having reached the age of 84 years.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Ernest Dalton, he survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Norman (and Mary) Dalton and Linville (and Crystal) Dalton, all of Eubank, Ky.; one daughter, Elaine (and Edward) Ramsey of Lafayette, Ind.; one brother, William Claude (and Allene) Dye of Somerset, Ky.; eight grandchildren, Nathaniel and Jonathan Dalton, Seth and Thomas Dalton, Rowen “Ray” Ramsey, Vivian Ramsey, Brenda Lynn Ramsey and Angela Ramsey; and eight great-grandchildren.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by one great-grandchild.

She was a loving pastor’s wife, a loving mother, and she enjoyed farming. She was a member of the Heritage Hope Church of God. She was a kind lady who will be greatly missed by all who knew her and she leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at the Heritage Hope Church of God with Ernest Dalton and Linville Dalton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Science Hill Cemetery.

The family of Mrs. Sylvia Goldie Dalton will receive friends at the Heritage Hope Church of God after 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013.

Mathal Foster

Mathal Dick Foster, 85, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Oct. 25, 2013 at Somerwoods Nursing Home.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1928 in Bethelridge, Casey County, Ky., daughter of the late Arvil and Lola Dick. She was a graduate of Middleburg High School, Lindsey Wilson College and Eastern State College.

She married William Robert Foster on May 20, 1948 and they continued teaching careers in the Science Hill schools in 1950. They were blessed with twin girls on Sept. 13, 1951 and made their home in Science Hill.  

He passed away on Feb. 18, 2011.

She began her teaching career at age 19 in various one room schools in Casey County and completed her degree traveling to Richmond on Saturdays and during summers. She completed her teaching career at Science Hill Elementary in 1965 and while there initiated the performing arts program with Ruth Beauty, conducting many cantatas and operettas throughout her tenure.

She was active in Science Hill Garden Club, having served in many capacities, and she was  a founding member of Science Hill Homemakers Club. United Methodist Women was a service she loved and devoted a great deal of her life to. She was a member of Science Hill United Methodist Church for many years and held leadership roles in Sunday School and children's events. At her death, she was a member of Somerset First United Methodist Church, and a member of Wesley Fellowship and The Glen Gover Sunday School Class.

She was associated with Kentucky Education Association and National Education Association throughout her teaching career.

She was an avid bowler and golfer with the Eagles Nest Ladies League. She followed her husband's officiating career in various basketball conferences throughout the state as well as the OVC and SEC. She loved traveling to the Kentucky State High School Basketball Tournament and was readily engaged in every game.

She is survived by twin daughters, Sherrye (and Bob) Tucker of Somerset and Gerrye Randall of Somerset; a brother, Gerald Dick; and a devoted sister-in-law, Wanda Dick.  

She is also survived by four grandchildren, Ryan (and Brandi) Tucker, Monica (and Brandon) Smith, Greg (and Hailey) Randall, and Neal (and Katelynn) Tucker.  

Six great-grandchildren survive, Kannon Tucker, Bennett Tucker, Bryce Tucker, Asher Smith, Griffin Smith, and Lillian Grace Randall.   

A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at Somerset First United Methodist Church with her family and Rev. Steve Spitzer officiating.

Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Monday at Somerset First United Methodist Church.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Somerset First United Methodist Church Youth or Somerset Family Resource Center.

Glen Polson

Mr. Glen O. Polson, son of the late Earnest and Beatrice Polson, was born in Pulaski County, Ky. on July 25, 1941 and he departed this life at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Jean Waddle Care Center on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 having attained the age of 72 years.

Survivors include two aunts, Zella Loveless of Somerset, Ky. and Louise Petrey of Columbus, Ohio; one uncle, Melvin Harper of Va.; and three special caregivers in his life, Bobby Cook, Geleva Schmitz and Dana Davis; and a host of other relatives who will mourn his passing.

Glen attended the Active Day of Somerset, Ky., and he loved Gospel music and western TV shows.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Dr. Greg Ryan officiating.  

Burial will follow in the Barnesburg Cemetery.

The family of Mr. Glen O. Polson will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 11 a.m. Monday until time for services.

In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Jean Waddle Care Center, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, Ky. 42503.

David Shelton

David W. Bornon Shelton was born June 26, 1961 and he passed away on Oct. 22, 2013 in Somerset, Ky.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 28 from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral

service at 2 p.m. at the Radel Funeral Home, 4122 Glenway Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio, 45205.

His place of internment will be St. Joseph New Grounds Cemetery, Cincinnati., Ohio.
