Somerset — David Burton

David E. Burton, age 58 of Nancy, Ky. departed this life on Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.   

Visitation for Mr. Burton will be on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at 5 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will be Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.  

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Nancy, Ky.

Richard Creekmore

Richard A. “Rick” Creekmore, 67, of Somerset, Ky., husband of Linda Jo (Ashley) Creekmore, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born on June 21, 1946, son of the late Herstle and Juanita Crabtree Creekmore.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Melissa (Creekmore) Newton, and grand dog, Oscar; a son, Stephen Snell; three beloved grandchildren, Austin, Nicholas and Sydney; a brother, Kenneth (and Glenda) Creekmore; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Pat Goggins.

Richard was a man of many talents with a great love of music.

The family requests any expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.  

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no services.

Raise a glass of Glenlivet in his memory and fondly remember one of Richard's favorite sayings, “No crybabies.”

Betty Godbey

Mrs. Betty E. Godbey, age 81, of Somerset, Ky., daughter of the late Mitchel and Beatrice (Wesley) Butt was born in Somerset, Ky. on Nov. 17, 1932 and she departed this life on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Jean Waddle Care Center.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Estill “Satch” Godbey Jr., and he preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Michelle S. Godbey of Somerset, Ky.; one brother, Rondal (Phyllis) Butt of Tenn.; one sister, Hollis Gleason of Somerset, Ky.; and three nieces, Debra (Darrell) Lyons of Somerset, Ky., Rhonda (Eddie) Baker of Tenn. and Melanie (Jim) Massa, also of Tenn.

Betty was a bookkeeper for Somerset Automotive and a member of Duke Memorial Baptist Church. She loved collecting antiques, refinishing furniture and painting. Betty was a wonderful wife, mother, and aunt, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. David Morris officiating.  

Burial followed in the Science Hill Cemetery.

Leslie Marcum

Leslie Jack “Chink” Marcum, age 68, of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

Leslie, known to his friends as “Chink,” was born on April 20, 1945 in Somerset to the late Chester and Martha Tarter Marcum. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Chink was a fork truck driver for the General Electric Company in Louisville for 32 years. He retired in 2000. He was a member of the Local #761 Union in Louisville.

He is survived by his sons, Dale (and Dawn) Marcum, of Louisville, Ky. and Kevin (and Linda) Marcum, of Ferguson, Ky.; his daughters, Monica Marcum, of Science Hill, Ky. and Christy Marcum Peters, of Somerset, Ky.; his wife, Nancy Marcum, of Somerset, Ky.; brothers, Wendell Marcum, of Somerset, Ky. and Darrell Marcum, also of Somerset, Ky.; his six sisters, Lois O'Neil, Patty Calloway and Phyllis Marcum, all  of Louisville, Ky., and Jolene Nevels, Lisa Canada and Gladys Marcum, all of Somerset, Ky.; and 11 grandchildren, Tabitha Marcum, Michael Jutz, Thomas Peters, Brayden Whiles, Madison Marcum, Alliyah Jones, Ariana Silvers, Brandy Marcum, Jeffery Marcum, and Jessica and Lilly.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Lloyd Marcum; and his sister, Beverly Toohey.

Visitation will be on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014 at 6 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 at 12 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Bro. Sean Marcum officiating.

Interment will be in Tarter Cemetery in Nancy, Ky.  

Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.

Auther Roberts

Auther “Art” Roberts, 65, of Eubank, Ky., passed away Friday, Jan. 17, 2014 at his residence.

He was born in Bethelridge, Ky. on Jan. 20, 1948, son of Quilla Godbey Roberts and the late James “Os” Roberts. He was a sawmill worker.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen Marie Anderson, whom he married on Dec. 29, 1973; four children, Crystal Catenna (and Jason) Acord, Melissa Ulenna (and Nadan) Brown and Amber Lisa Denise (and Isaac) Masten, all of Eubank, and Brad Allen (and Corinia) Roberts of Somerset; 11 grandchildren, Jessica Brown, Colton Brown, Devin Brown, Lucas Brown, Tiffani Gastineau, Trinity Gastineau, Shelby Roberts, Courtney Masten and Ashley Masten, all of Eubank, and Madison Roberts and James Roberts, of Somerset; his mother, Quilla Roberts; three sisters, Luetta Roberts, Marie Roberts and Omeda Molen, all of Somerset; a cousin, Jimmy Roberts, who was his brother through life of King Bee; Mandy Waldroup, an “adoptive” daughter of Eubank; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, James “Os” Roberts; and one sister, Evona Harp.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Sears and Phillip Gastineau officiating.

Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today, Sunday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Minnie Taylor

Minnie Mae Taylor, 87, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014.
