Somerset — Shellie Lequire, Jr.

Shellie Eugene Lequire, Jr., age 83, of Nancy, Ky., departed this life on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Kathleen Miller

Kathleen Jeanette Strunk Miller, 78, of Ferguson, Ky., entered through Heaven's Gates on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1935, the daughter of Leo and Mable Strunk. She grew up in Junction City, Ky. and loved her childhood there. She attended Pulaski County High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and had an unwavering faith in God. She was an amazing homemaker who enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and singing. In the last few years, she walked at Rocky Hollow and was part of the YMCA water aerobics classes. She was a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church where she had great enjoyment from the Seniors Program and the fellowship.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She was widowed in 1970 by her first husband, Harold C. Miller, and was married for 22 years to her husband Calvin “Buddy” Miller until his death in 2000.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Louise Strunk, Anna Marie Strunk and Joy Strunk Mayfield.

She is survived by one daughter, Paula Jean (and Rex) Barker, of Richmond, Ky.; one son, Douglas Ray (and Shawnda) Miller, of Frankfort, Ky.; two stepsons, Calvin “Tiger” (and Susan) Miller and Ronnie Miller, both of Somerset, Ky.; four grandchildren, Thomas Rex Barker, Jenna Kathleen (and Russell) Sells, Aaron Douglas Miller and Micah Calvin Miller; and two great-grandchildren, Kaylee Jean Sells and Ashlynn Isabella Sells.  

She is also survived by one brother, Roger (and Diana) Strunk, of Eubank, Ky.; one sister, Vicki (and Tony) Ashley, of Somerset, Ky.; and a host of extended family and friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with the funeral services to follow at 1 p.m. Bro. Mike Stacey of Buena Vista Baptist Church will officiate the service.

Interment will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.  

Pallbearers will be Thomas Barker, Aaron Miller, Micah Miller, Michael Mayfield, Bobby Mayfield and Alan Mayfield.

William PIttman

William Dale Pittman, age 50, of Hancock Road in Eubank, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at LaFollette Medical Center in LaFollette, Tenn.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home with Bro. Robby Barron officiating the service.

Burial will follow in Pittman Cemetery in Eubank.

The visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions suggested to the William Dale Pittman Memorial Fund, c/o Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home, PO Box 67, Waynesburg, Ky., 40489.

Collis Stumbo

Collis H. Stumbo, 89 years old, passed away on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013.

He was born in McDowell, Ky. on March 23, 1924 to George Dewey (Hobb) Stumbo and Vida (Collins) Stumbo. He graduated from McDowell High School in 1941 and worked for a year at home before enlisting in the United States Navy, where he served his country for three years. He then enrolled at Pikeville College where he met and married Mazel Hamilton on Oct. 12, 1946.

He attended Pikeville College for two years, then enrolled in Transylvania University where he received a degree in Education. He then attended the University of Kentucky where he received his Master’s Degree in Education. He went to Fern Creek High School in Louisville, Ky. where he was hired as a teacher and coach for three years. In 1955 he went to Dearborn, Mich. where he was hired as a teacher and coach in the Dearborn School System where he was employed until he retired in 1982.  He was an administrator for Dearborn Schools for the majority of the 31 years of employment.

While in Dearborn, Mich. he was an active member of the Dearborn Evangelical Covenant Church and Dearborn Bible Church in Dearborn, Mich.

When living in Somerset, Ky. he was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Nancy, Ky., and First Baptist Church of Somerset, Ky. Upon moving to Bowling Green, Ky. he became an active member of Burton Memorial Baptist Church, Bowling Green, Ky.

Collis is survived by his wife, Mazel H. Stumbo, and three sons, daughter (deceased), and nine grandchildren: Scott Stumbo and DeAnne Lund of Nashville, Tenn., with Scott's daughters, Allie and Hannah Stumbo of Simpsonville, Ky.; David and Lori (Eaton) Stumbo of Bowling Green, Ky., with sons Zeke and Zach, and daughter Rey Ann Stumbo; Matthew and Stacy (Hicks) Stumbo of Bowling Green, Ky., with sons Jordan and wife Jessica Stumbo, Cody and daughters Morgan and Madison Stumbo, and one daughter Valerie Stumbo (deceased at birth).

Collis also had two brothers and a sister: Tilden Ray Stumbo of Lexington, Ky., Dewey Gilbert Stumbo of Wabash, Ind. (deceased) and Oneida Hall of Ypsilanti, Mich. (deceased).

Collis loved to quail hunt when he was younger and he also loved to play golf. He played golf almost every day until the age of 86 with his good friend Henry Smith until he had a fall and broke a shoulder and hip in Feb. of 2011. He loved his children and grandchildren and was an inspiration to everyone around him. He touched many young lives as a teacher, coach and administrator over his years as an educator. He was loved and will be missed by so many.

Visitation will be at J.C. Kirby and Son, Lovers Lane Chapel in Bowling Green from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST today, Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. CST today, Wednesday at the funeral home.
