James Powers, age 75, of Somerset, Ky., passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Powers was born on June 18, 1938, in LaFollette, Tenn. to the late George and Francis Moore Powers.
He is a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by two step sons, Dennis (andDeloris) Chadwell of Berea, Ky. and John Wayne Chadwell of Decatur, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Doris Lee Baker of Somerset, Ky.; five grandchildren, Jamie Powers, of Somerset, who James and Ellen raised as their son, James Baker of Somerset, Ky., Shane Chadwell of Berea, Ky., Joey Chadwell of Berea, Ky., and David Chadwell of Decatur, Ind.; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Chadwell, Austin Chadwell, and Harrison Powers; two sisters, Deloris Owens of Tenn. and Shirley Powers of Tenn.; a brother, Mike Butterini of Tenn.; two nieces, Melissa Turner of Tenn., and Carla of Tenn., who was a special caregiver to James, giving him much attention and love in his last days; a nephew, Michael Butterini; a special lady, Darlene Roberts, who was a great caregiver, who provided much comfort for him in his last days; a special group of friends; and his fellow motorcycle riders, whom he loved and was close to all.
He also leaves behind a host of close friends and family.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Powers, who he married on June 25, 1966 in McKay, Ky., and a brother, Carl Powers.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Clyde Strunk officiating.
Burial will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post 38.
Pallbearers will be Ross Valentour, Greg Kinney, Sid Ratliff, Josh Roberts, Shane Chadwell, and Joey Chadwell.
