John E. Brooks, 85, of Somerset, Ky., passed away on Friday November 29, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
He was born on February 19, 1928 in Ingram, Ky., to the late Gillus and Abbie Green Brooks.
John was a retired electrician and a member of the Centennial Baptist Church in Ingram, Ky. He enjoyed raising his cattle and farming and enjoyed his time with his family and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Brooks; one brother, Jack Brooks; one sister, Georgia Slugher; and one grandchild.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Verla Fuson Brooks, whom he married on June 10, 1946 in Ingram, Ky.; five sons, James Estil (and Treva) Brooks of Barboursville, Ky., John Larry (and Phyllis) Brooks of Pineville, Ky., Tony (and Charlotte) Brooks of Science Hill, Ky., Timothy (and Robin) Brooks of the Oak Hill Community, Somerset, Ky., and Bro. Teddy (and Regina) Brooks of Somerset, Ky.; one daughter, Saundra Mays of Somerset, Ky.; two sisters, Jewell (and Billy Ray) Carroll of Harrogate, Tenn., and Billie Owens of Harrogate, Tenn. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday December 3, 2013 after 12 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Teddy Brooks officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

William Albert "Bill" Campbell, 78, of Eubank, Ky., departed this life on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at his residence.
Bill was born on November 19, 1935 in Hargis, Ky., to the late Oscar and Marie Blankanship Campbell. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He married Carol Ann Deluca on June 13, 1968 in McHenry, Ill. Bill was owner operator of his own exterminator business. He was a member of St. Mildred's Catholic Church, in Somerset.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Deluca Campbell; his sons, William Scott (and Cathy) Campbell, of Pulaski County, Ky., and James Glen (and Laura) Campbell, of the United Kingdom; his daughters, Genella (and Joe) Ihrig, of
Madison County, Ky., and Michelle Roy, of Pulaski County, Ky.; two brothers, Johnny Ray Campbell and Kenneth Campbell, both of Pulaski County, Ky.; nine grandchildren, Mindy Roy, Wade (and Samantha) Gover, William (and Megan) Gover, Mikki Roy, Catie (and Wayne) Phelps, Heather Campbell, Elizabeth
Campbell, Savana Campbell and Finnian Campbell; and four great-grandchildren, Alyssa Phelps, Taylor Phelps, Andrew Phelps and Danella Gover.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Campbell and Marie Blanchette; and three brothers, Henry Campbell, Charles Campbell and Archie Campbell.
A memorial service for William Albert "Bill" Campbell will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at St. Mildred's Catholic Church, 203 South Central Avenue, Somerset, with Father Jeffrey Estacio officiating.

C. Stuart Thompson passed away November 24, 2013, at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation in Somerset. He had suffered the effects of Alzheimer's disease for over ten years. He is survived by his wife, Vickie R. Thompson; son, Dr. David S. Thompson (and Marsha), of Tucson, Ariz., and sister-in-law Kay Stephens (and Gerald), Snead, Fla.
Predeceasing him were his first wife, Irenee and his parents, Clifford and Mildred Thompson.
Stuart retired from the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1986 and moved to Somerset.
A memorial service will be held December 6 at Somerset Undertaking Company, at 2 p.m., with visitation one-half hour prior to the service.
Fr. Bruce Swinehart, Boulder, Colorado and Rev. Marcia Hunter, Lexington, will officiate.
A reception will follow at Somerset Undertaking Company.

Bernice Haste Wesley, 80, of Highway 635, Science Hill, Ky., passed away Sunday
December 1, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She was born on November 26, 1923 in Science Hill, KY to the late Harlan and Ada Sweet Haste.
Bernice was a homemaker and a member of the West Science Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed quilting and loved her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert Wesley; a step-son,
Johnny Edward Wesley; and a grand-daughter, Lisa Wesley.
She is survived by her son, Robin (and Kristie) Wesley of Science Hill, Ky., and step-son, Chester (and Sandy) Lee Wesley of Paulding, Ohio; her grandchildren, Brandon Wesley, Beth Wesley, Johnny (and Bing) Wesley, Tedda Wesley, William Wesley, Chester Wesley and Angie Wesley; also survived by several great grandchildren.
