Somerset — Jason Fitch Jason Michael Fitch, age 36, of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, in Somerset. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at 7 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. until time of the memorial service. Alice Mounce Alice Mounce, age 79, of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Baptist Health Hospital in Corbin, Ky. Visitation will be on Monday, May 26, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Bro. Richard Christian will officiate the funeral service. Interment will be in Pittman Creek Cemetery. Roberta Poynter Roberta Kathleen Poynter, age 88 of Somerset, Ky., the widow of Carter Poynter, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Arrangements are pending by Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Lois Shepherd Lois Cooper Shepherd, 88, of Russell Springs, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville. She was born Sept. 14, 1925 in Russell County to the late Cosby and Golda Meece Cooper. She was a retired teacher and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Samuel Vernon Shepherd; and a brother, Kenneth Cooper. Survivors include her husband, Bro. Louis Shepherd, Russell Springs; two children, Stephen Louis Shepherd, Antioch, Tenn., and Sherri Lois Shepherd, Louisville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Stephen Louis Shepherd, II, Benjamin Lee Bruck, Laura Elizabeth Bruck, and Emily Samantha Bruck; one great-grandchild, Shaden Eastwood; two sisters, Alma (Mike) Duffy, Russell Springs, and Anna (Rex) Slechter, Crestwood, Ky.; and one brother, Vernon Elliott (Ramona) Cooper, Niceville, Fla. Funeral services for Lois Cooper Shepherd will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2014 at the Friendship Baptist Church with Bro. John C. Wilson and Bro. Danny Withers officiating. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Bernard Funeral Home in Russell Springs, Ky. and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in the Smith Memorial Cemetery. Bernard Funeral Home in Russell Springs is in charge of arrangements. Alvin Spears Alvin Waide Spears, age 75 of Lebanon, Ind. passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Somerwoods Nursing Rehab Center. He was born on June 5, 1938 in Eubank, Ky. to the late Odis and Beatrice Young Spears. Waide was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed horses, gardening, outdoors and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Russell Donald Spears and Janice Rue Spears; and a grandson, Jason Spears. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Smith Spears; two sons, Larry (Lisa) Spears of Lebanon, Ind. and Jerry (Tina) Spears of Jamestown, Ind; one daughter, Beverly (David) Watson of Lebanon, Ind.; one sister, Shirley Darlene Spears of Somerset, Ky.; one uncle, Pauly Spears of Lexington, Ky.; his grandchildren, Christopher (DJ) Jay Spears, Danielle Nicholle (Kevin) Allen, Austin Waide Spears, Brittney Morgan Harris and Sarah Beth Clemens; and his great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Logan, Braden, Joscelyn, Avryn and Rowyn. A Celebration of Life visitation will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2014 from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Berdeana Stringer Mrs. Berdeana “Dean” Stringer, age 82, of Somerset, Ky. passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Tanner Cemetery. The family of Mrs. Berdeana “Dean” Stringer will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2014. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to either The Carnegie Community Arts Center, 107 North Main Street, Somerset, Ky., 42501, or The Habitat for Humanity, P.O.
