Somerset — Blanche Haynes

Blanche Faye Yocom Haynes, the daughter of the late Lewis and Emma Griffis Yocom, was born in Eubank, Ky. on Dec. 13 1923 and departed this life in Somerset, Ky. on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2013 having attained the age of 90 years.

Blanche was united in marriage to Mr. Lawrence Haynes. He preceded her in death.

She is survived by a son, Donald (Janet Leigh) Haynes of Bronston; a daughter, Sharon (Stanley) Olenski of Tampa, Fla.; one sister, Vivian Yocom Abbott of  Somerset; and a grandson, Josiah Olenski of New Orleans La.

Blanche is also survived by many friends and family members who morn her passing.

Blanche was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son Dale Larry Haynes; and a brother-in-law, Roy L. Abbott.

She was a homemaker, a former employee of American Greeting in Danville, an employee of Roses Department store in Somerset, a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church and a former member of Eubank Baptist Church, where she served as a leader for the G.A. She was a member of many committees, and she also sang in a quartet that sang in many nursing homes and churches. She loved her church and family very much.

Funeral services for Blanche Faye Yocom Haynes will be in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at 3 p.m. with Bro. Shelby Reynolds officiating.

Burial will follow in the Eubank Cemetery.

Lena Haynes

Lena Edna Haynes, age 88 of Parkers Lake, Ky., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born on Nov. 20, 1925 in Dixie Bend, Ky. to the late Abb and Elsie Lawery Hill. Lena was a factory worker and a restaurant worker. For many years she volunteered at the McCreary County Appalachian Christian Community Center, and she was a friend to all who knew her.  

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bernard C. Haynes; and two sons, Otis Haynes and Stanley Edward Haynes.

She was also preceded by seven brothers; two sisters; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry (Karen) Haynes and Billy (Wanda) Haynes, all of Parkers Lake, Ky.; six daughters, Catherine Haynes of Monticello, Ky., Magdalena (Joseph) Ballou of Burnside, Ky., Lois (Roy) Beaty of Eubank, Ky., Louise New of Parkers Lake, Ky., Marie (Rex) Gregory of Monticello, Ky. and Tenna Canada of Bronston, Ky.; one brother, Roy Hill of Tateville, Ky.; and one sister, Bertha Phillips of Somerset, Ky.

She is also survived by a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 after 1 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. David Vaughn officiating.

Burial will follow in the Sloans Valley Cemetery.

Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
