John C. Bowling, 79, of the Camp Ground community, passed away Friday, December 7 at his home.
He was born on March 1, 1933 in Leslie County, Ky., to the late Web and Maratha Bowling. John proudly served in the United State Army in the Korean War. John was a retired self-employed electrician. He enjoyed fishing, playing his banjo and guitar, and raising his cockatiels, parakeets, and love birds.
John leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Shirley Mae Burns Bowling, whom he married on march 3, 1957 in Jellico, Tenn. From this union, they were blessed with two children, a son, Ricky (and wife Jody) Bowling of Monticello, Ky., and a daughter, Sherry (and husband Andy) Edmon of Somerset, Ky.; three grandchildren, Nathan Bowling, Josh Edmon, and Shawnda Edmon; and one great-grandchild, Braydon Edmon. John leaves behind a sister, Ester Dixion of Leslie County, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ronnie Bowling and Seldon Bowling, and two sisters, Ruby and Goldie.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 11 after 11 a.m. at the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Burnett officiating.
Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 38 Honor Guard.
Burial will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Ky.
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
