Somerset — Jerry Adkins

Jerry Adkins, 80, of Somerset, passed away at the Gene Waddle Center on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced later by Somerset Undertaking and Crematory who is in charge of arrangements.

Jenny Garland

Jenny Lynn Garland, age 43 of Somerset, Ky. passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born on Nov. 7, 1970 in Somerset, Ky. to Ida Worley Lockard and the late Jackie Lockard. Jenny was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed spending time with her children, and she enjoyed life and the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her father.

She is survived by her mother, Ida Lockard of Somerset, Ky.; her husband, Parker Garland Jr., whom she married on May 1, 2010 in Somerset, Ky.; three sons, Tyler Keith Redmond, Zachary Bryant Garland and Brandon Garland, all of Somerset, Ky.; one daughter, Shelby Lynn Galand of Somerset, Ky.; three sisters, Vickie Hembree, Jackie Spradlin and Alice Fairchild, all of Somerset, Ky.; and her mother-in-law, Francis Garland of Somerset, Ky.

She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and a favorite aunt, Claudia and Brian Watson of Burnside, Ky.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 after 6 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Jeff Lockard and Bro. Troy Merrick officiating.

Burial will follow in the Bronston Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Redmond, Michael Fairchild, Ronald Hembree, Donald Hembree, Ronnie Garland, Brandon Garland, Donnie Garland and Zachary Garland.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Jenny Garland Memorial Fund c/o Southern Oaks Funeral Home, 2110 West Highway 914, Somerset, Ky., 42503.

Doris Gill

Doris Ann Shell Gill, having attained the age of 73, of Bronston, Ky., passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2014 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan.10, 2014 at Pisgah Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rusty Butler officiating.

Burial will be in Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Friday at Pisgah Presbyterian Church.

Donations may be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, God's Helping Hands or the Salvation Army.

Ralph Hall

Ralph W. Hall, age 59 of Ferguson, Ky., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at UK Medical Center.

He was born on Dec. 26, 1954 in Pikeville, Ky. Ralph was a truck driver, and he enjoyed mustangs, cars, car shows, collecting guns and being a mechanic.

He was preceded in death by a friend who was like a brother, Harold Lavine.

He is survived by his parents; his wife, Debbie Hoffner Hall, whom he married on July 2, 1977 in Elyria, Ohio; two sons, Brad (Gracey) Hall of Somerset, Ky. and Christopher Hall (Brandy Whitt) of Ferguson, Ky.; one brother, Robert (Sherry) Hall of Ohio; three sisters, Lisa Lavine of Va., T.G. Comer of Mich. and Cherie (Cornell) Coffey of Somerset, Ky.; and four grandchildren, Hayden Hall, Kyrstin Hall, Logan Whitt and Alex Whitt.

He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and a host of special friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 after 6 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at 11a.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Butte officiating.

Jeffrey Price

Jeffrey Price, age 50 of Taylorsville, Ky., husband of Debbie Girdler Price, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.

Kenneth Stigall

Kenneth Blake Stigall, six weeks old, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 24, 2013 in Somerset, Ky. to Kenneth Jermaine and Tamela Collins Stigall of Ferguson, KY.

He is survived by his parents; five brothers, Terrence Stigall, Quincey Stigall, Kobe Stigall, Miguel Rogue and Damon Seawright; one sister, Blaze Rogue; his grandparents, Roger and Erma Stigall of Somerset, Ky. and Junior and Joyce Collins of Somerset, Ky.; and his grandmother, Doris Dobson of Somerset, Ky.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014 after 5 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Coffey officiating.

Burial will follow in the Southern Oaks Cemetery.

Louise Turpin

Louise Turpin, 83, left this earth to her eternal rest on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014.  

She was born in Somerset, Ky. on April 20, 1930 and raised in Ferguson, Ky. She married James Earl Turpin on June 30, 1951 and they soon moved to Ohio. Louise worked in a variety of roles, from the operating room to the IRS in Kentucky, learning about life and living it to its fullest. Lastly, she dedicated herself to working alongside James when they purchased their own IGA grocery store in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Her beloved husband preceded her in death in 1991 after 40 years of marriage.  

Louise cherished and sacrificed for her family, and she was a completely devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to each member. She created countless wonderful memories with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Prior to her death, Louise spent Christmas 2013 with her family at her home, thoroughly enjoying them in what will be a treasured memory.  

She is survived by her loving family: ±Two daughters, Corliss Doxsey (Ernie), Cincinnati, Ohio and Beverly Barrowcliff (Russell), Maineville, Ohio; a son, James Earl Turpin, Jr. (Linda), Lawrenceburg, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Patrick Doxsey, Douglas Ferrell (Jennifer), Carynne Sebastian, Alissa Schneider (Todd), Leah Clemens, Jamie and Sarah Turpin; seven great-grandchildren, Aubrey Louise and Addison Jane Ferrell, Jacob and Felicia Sebastian, Tyler and Isabella Schneider, and Quinton Adkins.  

She gladly served as MaMa as well to Autumn Martin.  

One of 10 children, she is also survived by her only living sibling, her sister, Martha Stringer of Somerset, Ky.   

Through her life she modeled perseverance and courage in facing life's demands and struggles without complaint and with enormous dignity. All of us will miss her dearly and she will live in our hearts forever. While we mourn her loss to us, we celebrate her joyful reunion with the dear family who have been awaiting her in heaven.   

Services for Louise will be Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Community Harvest Church of God on Empire Drive, Somerset.  

Visitation will be at the church from 1:30 p.m. until time of services.

Interment will follow at Science Hill Cemetery.

Michael Whitson

Michael “Mike” Whitson, age 55 of Somerset, Ky., passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014.

He was born on Sept. 8, 1958 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Holly Hardwick Whitson and the late John Whitson. Mike was a Class of 1976 Shopville High School graduate and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, and he loved baseball and sports in general, especially UK Basketball.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Gary Whitson.

He is survived by his mother, Holly Whitson of Barnesburg, Ky.; nieces, Misti Coffey, Sheri (Jacob) Holloway, and Jodi Whitson; nephew, Jonathan Whitson; great-nephew, Chris Holloway; great-nieces, Megan Coffey, Morgan Coffey, Kaitlyn Holloway, Anna Whitson, Martina Cummings, Abby Whitson, and Emily Baker; aunts, Ruby Vaught, Rose Jackson, Clora Tull and Jewell Sewell; and uncle, Doyle Hardwick.

He is also survived by many cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014 after 6 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. David Meece officiating.

Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations by made to the Pine Hill Cemetery or God's Helping Hands.
