Jerry Adkins
Jerry H. Adkins, 80, of Somerset, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.  
He was born in Huntington, W.Va. on Dec. 17, 1933 to the late Clyde Adkins and Sylvia Mae King Allen. He was united in marriage to Alice Baker on Sept. 20, 1952 in Cattlettsburg, Ky. 
Jerry served in the U.S. Navy during the 1950's and was a member of the I.O.O.F. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the Kentucky and West Virginia Press Association, and he was President of the Interstate Circulation Association. From 1965-1974, he was Circulation Manager for the Commonwealth Journal. From 1974-1979, he was circulation manager in Wheeling, W.Va. 
He owned and operated, along with his wife, Cabell Record Newspaper in Milton, W.Va. for 10 years. In 1989, he was general manager for three weekly newspapers in Yadkinville, N.C. He returned to Kentucky in 1992 and then retired from the Times-Tribune in Corbin, Ky. in 1995.  
Jerry is survived by his wife Alice; four children, Chris Adkins (Joyce) of Somerset, Sherrie Durham (Paul) of Maysville, Ky., Beverly Adkins Hart (Steven) of Lakewood Ranch, Fla., and Jerald Adkins (Holly) of Frankfort, Ky.
He is also survived by his brother, Donald Adkins (Barbara) of Chesapeake, Ohio; grandchildren, Brandy Adkins of Nicholasville, Ky., Christa Absher (Kris) of Science Hill, Ky., Summer Rae Jones (Chance) of Lexington, Ky., Elizabeth Kickert (Ben) of Swaziland, Africa, Megan Durham (Jason Abshire) of Maysville, Ky., Matthew Adkins of Huntington, W.Va., Christopher Adkins, Jr. (Sarah) of Boston, Mass., Lacey Campbell (Brad) of Maysville, Ky., and Tara and Nicholas Hart of Lakewood Ranch, Fla.; and step-grandchildren, Kristen and Samantha Waits of Frankfort, Ky; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Lonald R. Adkins.
Visitation for Jerry Adkins will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church, Somerset, Ky.
