Somerset — Jearl Bullock

Jearl B. Bullock, 66, of Eubank, Ky., passed away peacefully Friday, January 10, 2014 at Rockcastle Regional Hospital.

He was born on August 17, 1947, son of the late Hearl and Lucy Barnes Bullock. He was retired from Tecumseh after 26 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Lavonne Sims Bullock, whom he married on February 11, 1968; one son, Scott (and Stephanie) Bullock; one daughter, Monica (and Jeff) Dillingham, both of Woodstock; one brother, Donald Ray (and Thelma) Bullock of Brodhead; two sisters, Judy Kidwell of Mt. Vernon, Ky., and Mary Rose Deborde of Eubank; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Bullock of Eubank; five grandchildren, Brandon, Bradley, and Brooke Bullock, Jordan and Jayden Dillingham, all of Woodstock; one great-grandchild, Taegan "Little Girl" Bullock, and her mother, Cierra Alexander, to which all of his grandchildren he loved; and a special pet companion, Jake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Earl Bullock; father-in-law, Homer Sims; mother-in-law, Gertrude Whitis Sims; and a brother-in-law, James Kidwell.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Bradley Goforth officiating.

Burial will be in Eden Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. Jearl B. Bullock will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Jesse Jacobs

Jesse Jacobs, 85, of Waynesburg, Ky., having made peace with his Lord and Savior, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center.

He was born on June 21, 1928, son of the late Richard and Irene Leigh Jacobs. He retired from Norfolk Southern Rail Road.

He is survived by nine children, Barbara Jean (and Kenneth) Smiley of Cerulean, Ky., Phillip (and Yvonida) Jacobs of Kings Mountain, Ky., Jack (and Sara) Jacobs of Waynesburg, Ky., Juanita (and Carl) Cornett of Brooksfield, Fla., Marlene (and Hessel) Dijkstra of Maricopa, Ariz., Wanda (and David) McGhee of Cadiz, Ky., Jesse Tucker (and Jacqueline) Jacobs of Waynesburg, Ky., and Martha (and Paul) Estes of Kings Mountain, Ky.; three sisters, Connie Bradshaw of Harrodsburg, Ky., Phyllis Smith of Lexington, Ky., and Opal Carter of Covington, Ky.; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren;

and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Malcom Jacobs; and several brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Vola Brown officiating.

Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. Jesse Jacobs will be after 12 noon Monday, January 13, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Scottie Irvin

Scottie Allen Irvin, 51, of Science Hill, Ky., passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014.  

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 5 p.m. at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.  

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home chapel.

David Irvine

David Dale Irvine, 65, of Science Hill, Ky., passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

He was born in Bethelridge, Ky., on November 15, 1948, son of the late Ruben and Elsie Higginbotham Irvine. He was a welder for Tecumseh and a farmer. He accepted Jesus as his personal Savior on January 7, 2014. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during Vietnam in B Company, 4th

Battalion 47th infantry. He received a Purple Heart, a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman's Badge and an Air Medal.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Baker Irvine; one son, David W. Irvine; one daughter, Jennifer (and Chris) Powell, all of Science Hill; two brothers, Dean (and Connie) Irvine of Bright, Ind., and Gary (and Eunice) Irvine of Science Hill; six sisters, Margaret (and Elza) Jasper of Science Hill, Meg (and Hank)

Johnson of Lexington, Ky., Ruby Joyce Taylor of Cincinnati, Ohio, Elsie (and Bill) Cooper of Vaught Ridge, Ky., Glenda (and Hoy) Wilson of Science Hill, and Vivian Kay (and Ralph) Loveless of Science Hill; and one granddaughter, Katelyn Crabtree.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Joseph Allen and Bro. James Lowery officiating.

Burial will be in Vaught Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Wednesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Lillard Pettyjohn

Lillard Pettyjohn, 76, of Russell Springs, Ky., departed this life on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Russell County Hospital.

Lillard was born on Wednesday, March 3, 1937 in Casey County, Ky., to the late Roscoe Pettyjohn and Bess Thomas Pettyjohn. Lillard served his country in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was a self-employed appliance repairman, loved fishing, and gardening, especially vegetables and roses. He attended the Church of Christ in Russell Springs, KY.

Mr. Pettyjohn is survived by a daughter; Kim Burns of Russell Springs, Ky.;  a brother; Royce Pettyjohn of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters; Betty VanHook of Russell Springs, Ky., Louise Thomas Breeding of Versailles, Ky., Wanda Kay Woodrum of Georgetown, Ky.; a special niece; Janet Sue (and Steve) Glauber of Carrollton, Ky.; 28 nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Meyer Rector Pettyjohn, Vertrice Pettyjohn, Williard Pettyjohn, and two sisters, Reana Pettyjohn and Roxie Pettyjohn Brown.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 11 a.m. EST with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m. EST in the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Willie Ramsey officiating.

Burial will be in the Thomas Ridge Cemetery.

American Legion Post 38 will conduct full military honors.

The family request expressions of sympathy to be made to the American Legion Post 38.

Leo Rigney

Leo Ray Rigney, 85, died January 11, 2014 surrounded by his family.

Services for Leo Ray Rigney will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Double Springs Baptist Church. Bro. Ron Shepherd, Bro. Brad King, and Bro. Nathan Todd will be officiating.

Burial will be in Double Springs Cemetery.

Visitation was at Double Springs Baptist Church on Monday, January 13, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Lloyd Robbins

Lloyd K. Robbins, 74, of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Lloyd was born on June 11, 1939 in Burnside, Ky., to the late Everett and Magel Christine Lloyd Robbins. He was a factory worker, living in Cincinnati, OH for 20 years. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church on Bourne Avenue, in Somerset.

He is survived by his son, Bobby Dale Whitis, of Piney Grove, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Tin Chin Robbins, of Shalimar, Fla.; two aunts, Irma Reed, of Somerset, KY and Uldean Craft, of Albany, Ky.; a caregiver, Donna Aaron, of Greensburg, Ky.; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.

Along with his parents, Lloyd is preceded in death by his brother, Everett Robbins, Jr.; uncles Lester Alcorn, Cletis Craft, James Lloyd, Charles Lloyd, Everett Lawson and Ben Aaron; and his aunts, Audrey Aaron, Ila Lawson and Nona Alcorn.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at 9 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.  

The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel.  

Bro. Coy Cox will officiate the service.  

Interment will be in the Burnside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Lawson, Lester Lawson, Jim Lloyd, Tim Reed, Robert Reed and John Aaron.  Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Hospice of Lake Cumberland and the staff of Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
