Somerset — Beulah Baugh

Beulah R. Phelps Baugh, 73, of Somerset, Ky., passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 at Richmond Place in Lexington, KY.

She was born July 15, 1940 in Somerset, Ky., daughter of the late Lloyd G. and Lucy W. Alexander Phelps. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Allen "Dickie" Baugh of 41 years. The couple were united in marriage on August 6, 1963 in Ringgold, Ga. Richard Allen "Dickie" Baugh departed this life on February 8, 2005. Beulah was a homemaker, beloved mother and nanny.

Survivors include three daughters, Julie Renee (and Terry) Johnson of Tallahassee, Fla., Rebecca Lynn (and Michael) Cathers of Somerset, Ky., and Deborah Rae (and Patrick) Bell of Monticello, Ky.; five grandchildren, Alex Johnson, Megan (and Jimmy) McClain, Miranda (and Chance) Lester, Hester Bell and Caitlyn Bell; two great grandchildren Olivia Rose McClain and Smith Allen Lester, brothers Vernon L. Phelps of Milford, Ohio and Glen L. (and Sonya) Phelps of Somerset, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her spouse; parents; brother, Howard Estep; and sister, Louis E. Phelps Mize.

A graveside service will be held today, Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 1:30 pm., in the Mill Springs National Cemetery with Rev. Steve Spitzer officiating.

Frank Burton

Frank Allen Burton, 81, of Somerset, Ky., passed away, Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on June 28, 1932 in Pulaski County, Ky., son of the late George and Sis Burton. He lived at the same address since 1957. He was a retired business man and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

He is survived by, his wife of 58 years, Velma Norene Evans Burton; two sons, Douglas Allen (and Jennifer) Burton of Eubank, and Doyle Fray Burton of Somerset; one daughter, Julia Ann Burton of Somerset; one brother, Albert Burton; two sisters, Gladys Bray and Melba Nichols; three grandchildren,

Jessica (and Patrick) Butcher, Lucas (and Katie) Burton, Jacob (and Jamie) Burton; and great-grandchildren, Kobe, Kaelyn and Kyndal Butcher, Elise and Noah Burton.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Aaron Burton and Youless Burton.

A funeral was held at 7 p.m., Monday March 17, 2014 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Patrick Butcher and Bro. Slade Moore officiating.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

The family has requested expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Bethel Baptist Church building fund or the Gideons International.

Rev. Warren Carroll

Rev. Warren Carroll, beloved pastor and member of the community and son of the late Samuel and Nola Alice Bullock Carroll, was born at Public, Ky., on June 21, 1921 and he departed this life on Sunday, March 16, 2014, having attained the age of 92 years.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 73 years, Hattie Molee Smith Carroll, whom he married on May 11, 1940.  Other survivors include two sons, Jim Carroll of Smithville, Tennessee and Danny (and Kathy) Carroll of Somerset, Ky.; three grandchildren, Jay (and Sondra) Carroll of Hamilton, Ohio, Michelle Carroll of Mason, Ohio, and James Daniel (and Joy) Carroll of Somerset, Ky.; six great-grandchildren, Dale Becker, Madison Becker, Alex Becker, Kenny Carroll, Megan Carroll, and Molee Belle Carroll; one brother, Willard Carroll of Washington State; and one sister,  Bea Chaney of London, KY.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lura Taylor.

Rev. Carroll was a Baptist minister for more than 47 years, pastoring many churches in Ohio and Kentucky, and holding revivals in many more. He also spent 16 years as an instructor at the Cumberland Baptist Institute helping educate future ministers.

Rev. Carroll had a distinguished military career during World War II, flying 27 bombing missions over enemy territory during the war. He was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel. He was a kind person who was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing and celebrate his home going.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, March 19, 2014 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene Tarter officiating.  

Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery at Nancy, Ky.

Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 38.

The family of Rev. Warren Carroll will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014.

Virg Cook

Virg Cook of Somerset, passed away March 17 at Fair Oaks Health Facility in Jamestown, Ky., of natural causes. He was 90 years old.

He was a giving and caring person with love of people, horses, western movies, and country music.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna (and husband Tom Brogan); two sons, Virgil and Richard

(and wife Kim) Cook, all residing in Eugene, Oregon; and a brother, Kenneth (and wife Shirley) Cook, residing in Portland, Oregon. He had two granddaughters and five great

grandchildren. He will be missed.

Gladys Conn

Gladys Conn, 96, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Jean Waddle Care Center.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 with Bro. David Green officiating.

Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

A visitation will be held after 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Judy Daniel

Judy Louise Daniel, 62, of Nancy, Ky., departed this life on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

Judy was born on November 9, 1951 to Dee Brent and Gena Lee Tucker Bolin. She was of the Baptist faith. She took pride in working at Burnside Greenhouse alongside the Shadoan family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.  

Judy is survived by her mother, Gena Lee Bolin, of Nancy, Ky.; her husband of 40 years, Lonnie Daniel;  two daughters, Amy (and Kevin) Molen of Nancy, Ky., and Amanda (and Eric) Reynolds of Science Hill, Ky.; two brothers, Dewel Thomas (and Cindy) Bolin of Nancy, Ky., and Lester (and Pam) Bolin of Nancy, Ky.; three sisters, Betty (and Tim) Muse of Science Hill, Ky., Phyllis (and Billy) Burton of Nancy, Ky., and Linda Sue (and Bob) Croley of Nancy, Ky.; her seven grandchildren, Ashley, Hannah, Kelley, Matthew, Jacob, Addison and Macy;  many nieces and nephews and a host of friends and neighbors.  

She was preceded in death by her father; Dee Brent Bolin.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.  

Her funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Bro. Marty Shadoan officiating.  

Burial will be at Smith's Grove Cemetery in Jabez, Ky.  

Pallbearers will be Jake Seeber, Matthew Reynolds, Ashley Caudill, Bill Daniel, Eric Reynolds, Dennis Daniel, David Henderson, Mike Reynolds, Hannah Caudill and Kelley Caudill.

Judy will be truly missed by her family and friends, but they know she is no longer suffering and in pain. She is now in the arms of Jesus. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Drake, Dr. Mullai and Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Doris Foster

Doris Foster, 63, of Burnside, Ky., passed away Saturday March 15, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born on February 7, 1951 in Shelbyville, Ky. to the late George and Gladys Logdson Hoar.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Avery Foster and one brother, George Hoar.

She is survived by a son, Gary (and Erica) Foster of Jamestown, Ky., and a step-son, Eddie Foster of Nancy, Ky.;. three daughters, Shondell (and Paul) Thorpe of Russell Springs, Ky., Twila Clark of Somerset, Ky., Bridgette Foster of Columbia, Ky., and step-daughter, Amanda Foster of Columbia, Ky.; one sister, Dorothy Hoar of Shelbyville, Ky.; and 13 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 after 10 a.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday March 18, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Phillip Miller officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Ky.

Edna Guthrie

Edna M. Ferguson Guthrie, 81, of Eubank, Ky., passed away Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Hospice of Lake Cumberland, Jean Waddle Care Center.

She was born in Albany, Kentucky on March 1, 1933, daughter of the late Leonard and Flossie Moreland Ferguson.  She was a homemaker and a member of Science Hill United Methodist Church. She was an avid UK basketball fan.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gene Guthrie; two sons, Ronnie (and Shirley) Guthrie of Eubank and Rick (and Barb) Guthrie of Somerset; one daughter, Lecia (and Terry) Ross of Eubank; grandchildren, Ryan (and Brittany) Guthrie, Aaron (and Chasiti) Ross, Samantha Ross (and Chuck Martin), Adam Ross and Sean Ross; great-grandchildren, Rilee Ross, Knox Guthrie, Olysn Guthrie and Emma Martin; and one brother, Leon (and Louise) Ferguson of Woodburn, Ky.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Martha Sue Guthrie, who died in infancy; three brothers, Hoyle Ferguson, Johnny Ferguson and James Ferguson; three sisters, Mary Riddle, Geneva Conner and Grace Goodman; and grandson, Nathan Gene Guthrie.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. David Green and Bro. Paul Cropper officiating.

Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today, Tuesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Betty McKinney

Betty Christine McKinney, 82, of Nancy, Ky., departed this life on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at her residence.

 Betty was born on August 18, 1931 in Kingsport, Tenn., to the late Audie Hugh and Mary Katherine McKamey Carr. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing, ceramics and artwork.

She is survived by a special friend and former husband and the father of three of her children, Walter Wayne Bennett; one son, Stephen (and Patricia) Bennett of Kettering, Ohio; three daughters, Kathy Christine (and Bill) Aslasken of Acton, Calif., Victoria Buyniski (and Jack Gluckman) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Andrea Kay (and Otis) White of San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Will Hugh Carr of Lake Worth, Fla.; two sisters; Patsy (and Elmer) Fields of Lantana, Fla., and Carol Luckoski of Dayton, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Scott (and Missy) Bennett, Stacey Bennett, Stephanie Bennett, James Aslasken, Samantha Buyniski, Edward Buyniski, John White, Vanessa White; and seven great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. McKinney.  

Visitation will be on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 6 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. James Floyd officiating.  

Burial will be at Morrow's Chapel in Jabez, Ky.

Larry Ping, 45, of Burnside, Ky., husband of Kathy Ping, passed away on Saturday March 15, 2014 at his residence.

Larry VanHook

Larry Wayne VanHook, 67, of Eubank, Ky., passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on March 14, 1947 in Eubank, Ky., son of the late Vola E. and Doris Benge VanHook. He played basketball for Eubank High School and was a graduate of UK with a degree in forestry.  He was an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force and spent several years in Pulaski County in the lumber business.   

He is survived by his daughter, Annalisa VanHook (and James Yoshii) of Oakland, Calif.; three siblings, Doris Jean VanHook Correll, Lois VanHook Sharpe, and Deborah VanHook; sister-in-law, Janie VanHook; former spouse, Carolyn Singleton Lugus; and long term partner, Wanda Guinn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Eddie VanHook.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the chapel of Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Dale Robins officiating.

Burial will be in White Lily Cemetery.
