Somerset — Phaylas Burton

Phaylas Mitchell "Burt" Burton, 73, of Somerset, departed this life on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center, in Somerset.

Burt was born on February 16, 1941, in the Delmer Community of Pulaski County to the late Sam and Ada Burton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during the Vietnam War.  He was a retired employee for the General Electric Company in Louisville. After moving back from Louisville, Burt worked for the Don Marshall car dealership, in the parts department and as a driver for the business.  He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Jean Vaught Burton, whom he married in Jamestown, Ky., on November 2, 1992; his son, Chuck (and Jill) Hampton, of Somerset; two brothers, Jimmy (and Janet) Burton and Vertrees Burton, both of Nancy; a sister, Delta Burdine, of Lafayette, Ind.; two grandsons, Justin Hampton, of Louisville and Aaron Hampton, of Somerset;  a special nephew, who is also known as a grandson, Zachary Michael Vaught; and his daughter-in-law, Barbara Hampton, of Somerset.

Preceding Burt in death are his parents; a very special son, Garnett Hampton; and his sister, Malona Fay Stoops.

Visitation for Mr. Burton will be on Sunday, March 30, 2014, after 6 p.m., at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.  

The funeral service will be held, Monday, March 31, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.  

Bro. Clyde Strunk will officiate the funeral service.  

Full military honors will be performed by the American Legion Post 38.  

Interment will be in the Science Hill Cemetery.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Wayburn Mayfield

Wayburn Mayfield, 78, of Somerset, Ky. passed away on Friday March 28, 2014 at his home.

He was born on November 16, 1935 in the Slate Branch Community to Faustine Powell Mayfield and the late Coleman Clay Mayfield.

Wayburn was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired supervisor for Food Fair grocery stores. He was a avid golfer and enjoyed fishing, music, family time and was a former member of the Somerset Trio.

He is preceded in death by his father, Coleman Clay Mayfield.

He is survived by his mother, Faustine Mayfield of Somerset, Ky. He is survived by his beloved wife, Nila Lynn Tompkins Mayfield, whom he married 60 years ago on March 3, 1954 in Rossville, Ga. They were blessed with three children, Tim Mayfield, Sherry Smith (and Darrell) and Kevin Mayfield (and Gloria); grandchildren Tracey Lackey (and Wes), Michelle Davis (and Eric), Amber Cox, Autumn Lawson (and Brandon), Megan Davis (and Shaun), Tiffany Dobbs (and Ronnie Dishman), Alan Dobbs (and Kim Nevels), Matthew Brumley, Scott Brumley and Raven Mayfield; great-grandchildren Josh Dishman, Madison Davis, Dean Davis, Jacob Centers, Shaylee Dishman, Sara Davis, Simon Lackey, Kayleigh Cox, Elijah Cox, Jackson Lawson, Macy Dishman, Abri Dobbs, Colton Dishman and Hunter Dishman. Also, he is survived by his one sister, Nelva Daulton (and Howard), and two brothers, Ralph Mayfield (and Margaret) and Mike Mayfield.

Visitation will be held on Monday March 31, 2014 from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. in the Memory Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday March 31, 2014 at 3 p.m. in the Memory Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. David Muse officiating.

Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 38 Honor Guard.

Troy McCloud

Troy McCloud, 86, of Somerset, Ky. passed away on Thursday March 27, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Care Center of Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on September 30, 1927 in Blackey, Ky. to the late William Robert and Ollie Nolan McCloud.

Troy was retired from Ford Motor Co. of Lorain, Ohio, and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of East Somerset Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Haywood McCloud, Arvus McCloud, Roscoe McCloud; and two sisters, Dora Thomas and Molene Greer.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Venable McCloud, whom he married on February 14, 1993 in Florida; five daughters, Shelia (and Ted) Mannikka of Warren, Michigan, Sharon (and Havard) Gauthier of Bossier City, La., Sue (and Bobby) Long of Warren, Mich., Darline McCloud of Auburn, Ind., and Ollie McCloud of North Ridgeville, Ohio; and one sister, Oma Smith of Lorain, Ohio. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family, and a close friend of many years, "Deacon" Morrow, of Somerset, Ky.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the charity of ones choice.

A Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date.
