Scottie Beacher Nelson, age 70 of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Friday, April 12, 2013 at his residence. 
He was born on April 8, 1943 in McCreary County, Ky. to the late James E. and Lucy G. Perry Nelson. He farmed early in life, then joined the Army and spent 28 years in the United States Army. Mr. Nelson was a member and volunteer of the Somerset VFW Post #269 for many years. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post #38 and Am-Vets.   
He is survived by his former wives, Linda Williams of Birmingham, Ala. and Jackie Durbin of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Paula (and Greg) Morgan of Birmingham, Ala. and Jessica Rose Nelson of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren, Ashley Nelson, Dylan, Aaron and Lila Osborne; two step grandchildren, Kehlan Morgan and Gavin Morgan; three brothers, George S. Nelson of N.C., Calvin L. Nelson of Stanton, Ky. and Paul E. Nelson of Booneville, Ky.; and two sisters, Rosetta M. Nelson (and Rufus) Beard of Nancy, Ky. and Dora M. Newport of Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Hiroko Rafferty; and a daughter, Stephanie Lodge; six brothers, Ted M., Melvin E., Frank M., Charles M., Jimmy W. and Fred M. Nelson; and three sisters, Aggie B. Bohannon, Pearl V. Richey and Mary Ann Nelson.  
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset, Ky. 
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Brother Randy Wiles officiating. 
Interment will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, Ky. 
American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
