Melba Songer

Melba June Songer, 81, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Somerset, Ky., passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014.

She was born on December 4, 1932 to the late Archie and Mollie Morris Poe.

Melba is survived by her beloved husband John Songer of 60 years; dear

children, John W. Songer, Jack S. Songer, Joseph E. Songer and Jill A. VanDeventer; cherished grandmother of four and great grandmother of one. She

will be loved and cherished by a host of other relatives and friends.

Melba was an active member of Montana Avenue Church of the Nazarene, 2559 Montana Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211. In loving memory of Melba, contributions may be made to Montana Avenue Church of the Nazarene, 2559 Montana Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Montana Avenue Church of the Nazarene, 2559 Montana Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Opal Sweet

Opal Irene Sweet, 80, of Waynesburg, Ky., passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born in Kings Mountain, Ky., on May 1, 1933, daughter of the late Vonnie and Gladys Marie Pittman Pullum. She was a farmer.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Shelley and Alice (and Carlos) Howell, both of Waynesburg, Ky.; three grandchildren, Reva York, Jeffrey York and Melinda Shelley; two great-grandchildren, Zayden York and Lilly Osborne; Phillip Witt, whom she thought of like a son, of Waynesburg, Ky.; two half-brothers and four half-sisters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira B. Sweet; her parents; two daughters, Gladys Marie Sweet, who died in infancy, and Brenda Sweet; and one brother, Earl Pullum.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Ron Shepherd officiating.

Burial will be in Jacob's Hill Cemetery.

Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
