Sunday's Obituaries


Somerset — Alex Stigall, Jr.

Alex Dewey Stigall, Jr., age 70, of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.  

Mr. Stigall was born on June 30, 1943 in Somerset, Ky. to the late Alex Dewey Stigall, Sr. and Nettie Alberto Brown Stigall. He was a member and Deacon of First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He loved to hunt, fish, work in the garden, and cook. He was an antique car enthusiast and was a member of the Car Club, Rock and Roll Street Machines.  

He is survived by his wife, Paula Katheryn (Gaines) Stigall; one daughter, Alexis Catherine Alexander of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Charles (Stephanie) Stigall of Terra Haute, Ind., and Russell (Patricia) Stigall of Anchorage, Alaska; and five sisters, Mary Alice Gilmore of Louisville, Ky., Feryn Summers of Louisville, Ky., Murelyn (Lou) Ray of Temecula, Calif., Patsy Renee' Stigall of Louisville, Ky., and Terry Anita Stigall of Anchorage, Alaska.  

He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert B. and Beulah Gaines of Somerset, Ky.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lillia Stigall, Terry and Diane Gaines, Cynthia and Robert Milligan, Glenda and Danny Bell, Stanley M. Gaines, Timothy and Cynthia Gaines, and Anthony and Linda Gaines; and a host of nieces, nephews, and aunts.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Stigall of Melbourne, Fla., and Sidney Randolph Stigall of Somerset, Ky.

Visitation will be on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Somerset, Ky.

His funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Somerset, Ky. with Dr. French Harmon officiating.

Burial will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery, with American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard performing full military honors.  

Pallbearers will be Forrest Coleman, Dale Randall, Dan Picard, Roger Stigall, Stephen Milligan, and Joshua Gaines. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dean Stewart, Eugene Jones, Mark Bullock, and Jimmy Goggins.  

In lieu of flowers the family request expressions of sympathy be made to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 1500 College Way, Lexington, Ky. 40502 or First Baptist Church, 128 North Main St, Somerset, Ky. 42501.
