Somerset — Rebecca Ables

Rebecca Lynn Ables, 56, of Paron, Ark., passed away Aug. 30, 2013.

Born in Somerset, Ky. to the late Joe and Barbara Elaine Scoville Harper, she was a veteran of the United States Marines. Becky was a caregiver of special needs children.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Ables; children, Gabe Slade (Jessica) of Johnson City, Tenn., Salina Smith (Blake) and Amanda Ables, both of Arkadelphia, Ark., and Jason Ables (Jamie) and Jeremy Ables (Sarah), both of North Little Rock, Ark.; brother, Joe Harper, Jr. (Becky) of Somerset, Ky.; sister, Letitia Ducas (Chris) of Lexington, Ky.; grandchildren, Carter Ables, Margo Ables, Trey Ables, Hudson Ables and Ella Ables; nephews, Wells Ducas, Ike Ducas, Pierce Ducas and Robby Burgin (Heather); great-nephew, Leif Burgin; and a host of other relatives and friends.  

She was well-loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

Services will be private.

Quinta Keith

Quinta Yaste Keith 79, of Somerset, Ky., passed away on Aug. 29, 2013 at Somerwoods Nursing & Rehabilitation.

She was born on May 20, 1934 to the late Gobel and Dolora Phillips Yaste in Gravel Switch, Ky. She graduated from St. Charles High School in St. Mary's, Ky. Then on Sept. 20, 1959, she was joined in marriage to Richard Keith at the First Baptist Church parsonage by Eldread M. Taylor.  

Quinta was a graduate of Durham Beauty School in Danville, Ky. and worked as a beautician. She was  the owner and business manager of Keith's Dairy Queen. A faithful member of First Baptist  

Church since July of 1958, Quinta was a Sunday school teacher in the nursery for many years  

and was a member of the Young at Hearts group of First Baptist church as well as the  

Gideon Southwestern Camp Ladies Auxiliary. Quinta loved exercising and walking. She was also a  beautiful seamstress, even winning the 4H state competition for sewing. Quinta also enjoyed quilting and crocheting.

Quinta was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Bill Yaste; and two sisters, Juanita Railey and Sadie Lee Yaste.

She is survived by her husband; her daughters, Patrice Keith Vaughn (Morris) of Somerset, Charlotte Keith Mauk (Kelvin) of Bellbrook, Ohio, and Kerrie Keith Garner (Jeff) of Nancy, Ky.; three brothers, Gobel Yaste Jr. (Faye) of Loretta, Ky., James Thomas Yaste of Wilmore, Ky., and Vernon Yaste (Jackie) of Avon, Ky.; two sisters, Lacheta Jarbo of Lebanon, Ky. and Patricia Morton of St Louis, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Cayla Vaughn, Electronic Tech Petty Officer Third Class Sam Hamilton, Tesa Gabrielle Hamilton, and Logan and Levi Mauk.

The family will receive friends at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co. on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013 from 5 p.m.  to 8 p.m.

A ceremony celebrating the life of Quinta Keith will be held on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co. with Dr. French Harmon and Bro. David Pendley officiating.

Burial will follow in the Somerset Cemetery.

Somerset Undertaking Co. and Crematory is in charge of all arrangements.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to either Gideon Bibles, Alzheimer's Research, or First Baptist Church 20-20 Building Program.

  • Viola Nichols

    Viola Keith Nicholas was born Sept. 5, 1921 to the late William and Alice Jones Keith and she departed this life to her eternal home on April 7, 2014, having attained the age of 92 years.
    She was a devoted wife to the late Wesley Nicholas for 50 years. She was a faithful member at Grave Hill Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School class for many years. She retired from the Pulaski County Board of Education. After retirement she served as a foster grandparent at Oakwood Training Facility for special needs children. She also volunteered at the Burnside Elementary preschool program, giving her time, talents and love to the 3 and 4 year old children whom she adored.
    Viola is survived by two daughters, Diana (and Austin) Alton, and Tana (and Tom) Chesney; one son, Rex Nicholas; and three brothers, Robert (and Barbara) Keith, Danny (and Ann) Keith, and David (and Ellen) Keith.  
    She was also blessed with many grandchildren and all were special to her.
    Other than her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Nicholas and Gale Nicholas; two grandsons, Ricky Alton and Michael Nicholas; a granddaughter, Karen Alton Cogdill; and the following siblings: Alicie Super, Emerine Neeley, Mattie Keith, Maggie Godsey, Bertha Duncan, Clara Helton, Otis Keith, Clora Hardwick, Vergie Keith, Grover Keith, Mertie Yeskie, Lowell Keith, Joyce Sellers, Bill Keith, and Jim Keith; and the following step-siblings: Murphy Owens, Geneva Hill, Louise Fritts, and Reva Jones.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Darry Hatfield and Bro. Doyle Worley officiating.
    Burial will follow in the Grave Hill Cemetery.
    The family of Mrs. Viola Keith Nicholas will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The Grave Hill Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 85, Tateville, Ky. 42558, or Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, Ky. 42503.
