Obituaries for Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014

Somerset — Roger Bandiera

Roger P. Bandiera, 61, a resident of Somerset Nursing & Rehab, passed away Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born in Wilmington, Del. on June 26, 1952, son of the late Victor and Mary Clementoni Bandiera. He was a TSA Agent for the Fort Lauderdale Airport.

He is survived by one brother, Anthony (and Laurie) Bandiera of Somerset, Ky.; one sister, Victoria (and Kenneth) Head of Science Hill, Ky.; a nephew, David (and Christine) Head; three nieces, Jael (and Sam) Nichols, Elizabeth (and Landon) West and Andrea Bandiera; an aunt, Elizabeth Dobies of Danville, Ky.; and numerous cousins and friends.

A private funeral service will be held among family and friends.

Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family request donations to be given to the American Diabetes Association.

Morris & Hislope Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Citak

Evelyn Citak, age 85, of Somerset, Ky., departed this life on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Lake Cumberland Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Evelyn Citak.

Faye Lawson

Faye Lawson, age 89, of Somerset, Ky. departed this life on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014 at her residence.

Faye was born on Aug. 23, 1924, in the Squib community to the late James Robert and Oma Dugger Whitaker. She married William Leon Lawson in Jamestown, Ky. on Oct. 28, 1950. Faye was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith.

She is survived by four sons, Larry Dale Lawson, Lonnie (and Phyllis) Lawson, Ricky Neal (and Nancy) Lawson, and Johnny Duane Lawson, all of Somerset; four daughters, Jeanette (and Jim) Shafer, Janice Gail (and Bob) Blanton, Terri Ann (and Richard) Pushell, and Sherry Robin (and David) Bishop, all of Somerset; a brother, Buell Whitaker, of Indianapolis, Ind.; 27 grandchildren, Danny Arthur, Donna (and Paul) Keating, Tracy Dobbs (and Danny Bullock), Darla (and Jeff) Tesch, Kent Arthur, Chris (and Cheryl) Arthur, Robbie (and Kelly) Blanton, Tina (and Eric) Hodge, Scotty (and Missy) Nix, Donney (and Teresa) Nix, Tangy (and Michael) Stogdsill, Gary Lee (and Lori) Lawson, Bruce Lawson, Larry Dale Lawson, Jamie Lawson, Toby Lawson, Nicole Pushell, David Pushell, Sean Lawson, Josh Lawson, Lindsey Lawson, Erika (and Bryce) Childers, Stacey (and Corey) Bolin, Casey (and Mike) Hall, Jon David Bishop, Jereme (and Jerusha) Flynn, and Kaitland Lawson; 37 great-grandchildren, Alyza Lawson, Crystal Elmore, Jason (and Kayce) Arthur, Cathalina Keating, Eric Keating, Jake Tesch, Josh Tesch, Jenna Tesch, Cody Dobbs, Tyler Dobbs, Zeke Arthur, Taylor Arthur, Lance (and Nikki) Arthur, Lauren Arthur, Kelsey Arthur, Hailey Arthur, Alyssa Hodge, Ethan Hodge, Jeremy Nix, Hannah Nix, Jacob Nix, Amber Nix, Caleb Nix, Jarrod Tarter, Abby Stogsdill, Josie Stogsdill, Chelsea Lawson, Fisher Lawson, Logan Lawson, Braden Lawson, Paisley Bolin, Payton Bolin, Allie Hall, Jenny Flynn, Kelsey Blanton, Austin Blanton and Colby Alexander; and one great-great-grandchild, Aiden Keating.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Jerry Nix and Gary Lawson; two daughters, Sheila Lawson and Deloris Lawson; one brother, Ferrell Whitaker; and one great-grandson, Cody Nix.

Visitation for Mrs. Lawson will be on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

There will be a visitation on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 at the funeral home chapel one hour before the

11 a.m. service time. Bro. Rick Lawson and Bro. Scotty Nix will officiate the funeral service.  

Interment will be in the Whitaker Cemetery.

Faye's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family requests donations be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

  • Viola Nichols

    Viola Keith Nicholas was born Sept. 5, 1921 to the late William and Alice Jones Keith and she departed this life to her eternal home on April 7, 2014, having attained the age of 92 years.
    She was a devoted wife to the late Wesley Nicholas for 50 years. She was a faithful member at Grave Hill Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School class for many years. She retired from the Pulaski County Board of Education. After retirement she served as a foster grandparent at Oakwood Training Facility for special needs children. She also volunteered at the Burnside Elementary preschool program, giving her time, talents and love to the 3 and 4 year old children whom she adored.
    Viola is survived by two daughters, Diana (and Austin) Alton, and Tana (and Tom) Chesney; one son, Rex Nicholas; and three brothers, Robert (and Barbara) Keith, Danny (and Ann) Keith, and David (and Ellen) Keith.  
    She was also blessed with many grandchildren and all were special to her.
    Other than her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Nicholas and Gale Nicholas; two grandsons, Ricky Alton and Michael Nicholas; a granddaughter, Karen Alton Cogdill; and the following siblings: Alicie Super, Emerine Neeley, Mattie Keith, Maggie Godsey, Bertha Duncan, Clara Helton, Otis Keith, Clora Hardwick, Vergie Keith, Grover Keith, Mertie Yeskie, Lowell Keith, Joyce Sellers, Bill Keith, and Jim Keith; and the following step-siblings: Murphy Owens, Geneva Hill, Louise Fritts, and Reva Jones.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Darry Hatfield and Bro. Doyle Worley officiating.
    Burial will follow in the Grave Hill Cemetery.
    The family of Mrs. Viola Keith Nicholas will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The Grave Hill Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 85, Tateville, Ky. 42558, or Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, Ky. 42503.
