Somerset — Evelyn Citak

Evelyn Citak, age 85, of Park Forest, Ill., passed away Feb. 7, 2014 in Somerset, Ky.

Born in 1928 to Polish immigrant parents, she grew up during the depression in Chicago finding means to study piano. She was gifted in music and became a competitive classical pianist, winning competitions during her high school years. In 1947 she married a US Coast Guard veteran, and soon after moved to the Chicago suburbs. There she raised five children and was active in several civic organizations and in her church serving as organist and choir director.

She held a strong faith in God, which she shared with her church and family.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking, camping, and sharing her music. She taught piano and held regular recitals in Park Forest for many years, having as many as 30-plus students per week. She enjoyed playing a variety of music, including classical concertos, sonatas, contemporary show and pop tunes, church hymns, children's songs, or whatever was needed or desired. She was a musical inspiration to many family and friends who have her to thank for their own musical pursuits.

Moving to Somerset, Ky. in 2000, she continued to share her infectious cheer, humor, love, music, and devotion to God with children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Lucile Bukowski Heyman; her husband, Albin Citak; her son, Ralph Citak; a brother, Edward Heyman; and a sister, Florence Peterson.

She is survived by her children, Raymond Citak, Dr. Brian Citak, Dr. Michael Citak and Catherine Citak Morman; 12 grandchildren, Ben Citak, Teresa Lawrence, Ann Citak, Nicole McColley, Michael Citak, Aaron Citak, Erika Citak, Matthew Citak, Robert Citak, Katherine Citak, Rachel Morman and Lauren Morman; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Evelyn was held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

The family is having a private graveside memorial service in Illinois.
