Somerset — Clarence Love

Clarence E. Love, 97, of Somerset, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Care Center. He was born in Somerset, Ky., on September 26, 1916 to the late Sam A. Love and Sarah E. Hardwick Love.  

He was united in marriage to Mabel Muse on September 21, 1938 in Somerset, Ky.

Clarence was a longtime city clerk and one of the most respected officials in the history of Somerset City Hall. His advice and counsel were sought and accepted by many. He was a friend of the news media and believed in open government. He spoke candidly about city business. Clarence retired in 1984 after serving 29 years as city clerk. He was then able to enjoy his most favorite sport, which was golf. Clarence was a 1935 graduate of Somerset High School and went on to graduate from the Rogers Business School. Clarence was involved in many things around the local area. He was Deacon at the First Baptist Church, past Master of the Somerset Masonic Lodge 111, past Grand Patron of Somerset Eastern Star, Deputy Grand Patron of District 8 Eastern Star and Master of Cub Scout Troop 138.

Clarence is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mabel; brother, Joseph Love (and Eloise) of Glen Carbon, Ill.; son-in-law, Eugene Tarter (and Inez) of Somerset; grandchildren, Richard L. Tarter (and Vicki) of Texarkana, Texas, John L. Tarter (and Cheryl) of Sikeston, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Richard Tarter (and Devon), Lauren Ramsey (and Claude), Leighton Tarter, Austin Tarter, Abigail Tarter, all of Sikeston, Mo.; Alex Tarter, Benjamin Tarter, of Texarkana, Texas; sister-in-law, Christine Tucker of Florence, Ky.; special nephew Bob Tucker (and Sherry), and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very dearly.

Also preceding Clarence in death were daughter, Sondra Sue Love Tarter; brother, Charles Love; and sisters Dorothy Thomas, Josephine Roysdon, Mary Norfleet, and Ruth Love.

Visitation for Clarence Love will be Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Somerset, Ky.

A celebration of life honoring Clarence Love will be Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Bros. John L. Tarter and David Pendley officiating.

Interment will follow at Somerset Cemetery.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland or the First United Baptist Church building fund.

Paul Loveless

Paul Edward Loveless, 75, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Hospice Care Center.

He was born in Mt. Zion, Ky., on January 22, 1939, son of the late Frank and Ethel Marie Baugh Loveless. He was a retired dairy farmer and logger. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Early Loveless of Somerset; one son, Ricky (and Sharon) Loveless of Eubank; one daughter, Vickie (and Mike) Calder of Somerset; three brothers, Glenn Loveless and Spencer Loveless (and Peggy Wesley), both of Eubank and Frank Wayne (and Brenda) Loveless of Russell Springs, Ky.; four sisters, Reeda (and Larry) Compton of Walton, Ky., Lois (and Bill) Alexander of Eubank, Mary Lou Hall of Woodstock and Wilma (and Sonny) Hood of Somerset; seven grandchildren, Ashton (and Dustin) Meece, D.J. Pinkel, Jackson Calder, Canon Calder, Madison Loveless, Dylan Loveless and Camron Silvers; two great-grandchildren, Gracie Pinkel and Raelynn Calder; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Alfreda Bishop; and two brothers-in-law, Milford Hall and Elmer Bishop.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie Miller officiating.

Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Sunday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Cheryl McMullin, 49, of Bethelridge, Ky., passed away Friday, February 14, 2014.
