Somerset — Meryle Harris

Meryle Lee Mounce Harris, age 72 of Norwwod, Ohio and formerly of the Poplarville community of Pulaski County, passed away away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.

She was born on April 20, 1940 in Poplarville, Ky. to the late Orville and Lurlene Sears Mounce.

Meryle was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, flea marketing, gardening and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bearl Harris, whom she married on May 25, 1959 in Jellico, Tenn.; her parents; two brothers, Earl Mounce and Richard Mounce; and one sister, Gloria Knight.

She is survived by one son, Michael (Myra) Harris of Camp Springs, Ky.; three daughters, Deborah (and the late James Jr.) Cromer of Norwood, Ohio, Ronda (James) Trammell of Liberty Township, Ohio and Carol Harris of Norwood, Ohio; three sisters, Violet (Bill) Brinson of Mt. Carmel, Ohio, Jean (Wayne) Sumpter of Deer Park, Ohio and Ruby (James) Carty of Somerset, Ky.; five grandchildren, Michael (Pam) Harris, Timothy (Jessica) Trammell, Clinton Cromer, Katelynn Harris and Kayla Cromer; and five great-grandchildren, Payton Harris, Cole Harris, Sadie Harris, Case Harris and Josiah Trammell.

She also leaves behind a host of friends and relatives to mourn her passing.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 after 6 p.m. in the Memory Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the Memory Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Harold Harris officiating.

Burial will follow in the Acorn Cemetery.

Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kathryn Short

Kathryn Short, 83, of Somerset, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at the Jean Waddle Care Center.

She was born in the Woodstock community of Eubank on July 15, 1930 to the late George McWilliams and Effie Abbott McWilliams. Kathryn was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Short, and her son-in-law, Cosmo Mirra. Kathryn is survived by two daughters, Linda Dunkum (Dr. Joseph Dunkum) and Jan Mirra;  two brothers, Lester McWilliams and Bill McWilliams; two sisters, Irene Hurst and Pauline Taylor; and two grandchildren, Dr. Molly Dunkum and Lucian Mirra.

Also preceding Kathryn in death were three sisters, Elizabeth Denney, Edna Denney and Edith Stifel.

Visitation for Kathryn Short will be Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co. and Crematory.  

A graveside service celebrating the life of Kathryn Short will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens with Rev. Wallace Thornton officiating.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, Ky. 42503.
