Somerset — Evalia Burden

Evalia O. Burden, 75 of Louisville, Ky. passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 at the Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

Evalia was born in Somerset, Ky. on Sept. 27, 1938 to the late Clarence and Opha Roberts Rogers. She was a member of the Faubush, Ky. Nazarene Church, she retired from the Louisville and Jefferson County Health Department, and she was a Kentucky Colonel. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Rogers and Elfreda Rogers Swanson; and a son-in-law, Phillip Michael “Mick” Hogan, Jr. Evalia O. Burden is survived by her husband of 53 years, Paul Burden of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Renee Burden Hogan of Sellersburg, Ind.; granddaughter, Emily

Hogan of Sellersburg, Ind.; and one brother, Orman C. “Jake” Rogers and wife Margaret of Faubush, Ky.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at 1 p.m. CST at the Jones Funeral Chapel, Morgantown, Ky., with Bro. Chad Bewley officiating.

Burial will be in the Aberdeen Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. CST and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the funeral time at 1 p.m. CST at the Jones Funeral Chapel.

Freddie Burton

Freddie Ray Burton, age 64 of Somerset, Ky. passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013  at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born on May 26, 1949 in Somerset, Ky. to the late Claude and Virginia Brasfield Burton. Freddie had worked as an EMT and for the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy. He was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, watching UK and spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Barbara Burton and Shirley Yanders.

He is survived by two sons, Cody Burton of Somerset, Ky. and Steve (Nicole) Burton of Science Hill, Ky.; and three sisters, Georgia Phillippi, Brenda Mounce and Cathy (Jerry) Colyer, all of Somerset, Ky.

He is also survived by Debbie Brasfield, who was like a sister; four grandchildren, Riley Burton, Taylee Burton, Coy Burton and Rayen Burton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 after 6 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Burnett officiating.

Burial will follow in the Southern Oaks Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Freddie Burton Memorial Fund c/o Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Richard Halloran, Sr.

Richard Thomas Halloran, Sr., age 80, of Somerset, departed this life on Nov. 13, 2013 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

Richard was born on Sept. 24, 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Milton and Dorothy Hohnecker Halloran. He graduated from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati in 1951 before joining the U.S. Army in 1953. Richard married Jo Ann Moore on Dec. 26, 1959 in Bedford, of Trimble County, Ky. He was the owner-operator of Goodyear Tire in Somerset from 1971 through 2008. He received his Ph.D. from the Cathedral Bible College of Myrtle Beach in 2007. In recent years, Richard and his wife Jo Ann owned and operated the Life Abundant Ministry and Healing Rooms in Somerset. He enjoyed the game of golf.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; his children, Gwen (and Lou) Badolato of Swamp Scott, Mass., Richard Thomas (and Lisa) Halloran, Jr. of Somerset, Ky., and Robert Milton (and Michelle) Halloran, of Madison County, Ky.; sisters, Judy (and Lee) Wolpert of Shelbyville, Ky., Jan (and Jim) Besiers of Owensboro, KY, and Joan (and Steve) Lippert of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Milt (and Angie) Halloran of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and seven grandchildren, Winston Correll, Victor Correll, Zack Correll, Hunter Halloran, Hailey Halloran, Noah Halloran and Elijah Halloran.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Dorothy Honecker Halloran.

Visitation will be on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. Bro. Steve Mullins, Bro. Mark Gilbert and Bro. Jerry Lewis will officiate the service.  

Burial will be at the West Somerset Cemetery.

Cordell Heath

Cordell “Bud” Heath, age 73 of Somerset, Ky. passed away Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was born on April 2, 1940 in McCreary County, Ky. to the late Elmer and Hazel McKee Heath. He was the owner-operator of Heath Saw Mill and he was a member of Wesley's Chapel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by many family members and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 after 11 a.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Stanley Sears officiating.

Burial will be in the Neeley's Creek Cemetery.

Charles Wilson

Charles R. Wilson, 72, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013 at his residence.

He was born in Pulaski County, Ky. on April 3, 1941, son of the late Willie Ray and Nancy Hall Wilson.  He was retired from masonry work and attended Beech Grove Methodist Church. He enjoyed riding horses.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Haste Wilson, whom he married on Oct. 29, 1960; three sons, Mike (and Shannon) Wilson and Jeff (and Misty) Wilson, both of Eubank, and Scott (and Lynnette) Wilson of Science Hill; one brother, Leon (and Dorothy) Wilson of Somerset; five grandchildren, Caleb (and Erica) Wilson, Josh (and Beth) Wilson, Faith Wilson, Thomas Wilson and Josie Wilson; and three great-grandchildren, Haylee Wilson, Austin Wilson and Tucker Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lynn Wilson.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Dave Bolin officiating.

Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today, Friday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
