Somerset — Arthur Bolze

Arthur John Bolze, 82, of  Boat Dock Road, Somerset passed away on Saturday,

December 7, 2013 at  The Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard, Ky.

Funeral arrangements are pending by Southern Oaks Funeral Home.  

Shelby Brock

Mr. Shelby Brock, 74, of Mt. Vernon, Ky., passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at his residence.

Born in Crab Orchard, Ky., on April 6, 1939, he retired as a truck driver after 33 years with The American Freight System, and was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of New Heart Baptist Church, where he sang solos and performed with The Southern Gospel Quartet and was a former Sunday school teacher whom helped build New Heart Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid vegetable gardener.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Brock and Shirley Shelton Brock; two brothers, Silas Brock and Bobby Ray Brock; and a sister, Dorothy Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Lee-Etta Blevins Brock, whom he married on August 13, 1960 in Lincoln County, Ky.; four sons; Leslie Shawn (and Rebekah) Brock, Shelby Lee (and Marianne) Brock, both of Cincinnati, OH, Jason Kyle Brock, of Austin, Texas, and Morgan Hodge, of Mt. Vernon, Ky.; four daughters, Constance Elaine (Kenneth) Quigley, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Shelley Rae (and William) Phelps, of Somerset, Ky., Melanie Joy (and Jeff) Whitney, of Sparks, Nevada and Madison Hodge of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Morris Wayne (and Beth) Brock of Greensboro, NC, and Lonnie Dale (and Diana) Brock of Mt. Orab, Ohio; sister, Brenda Lilly of West Chester, Ohio; 14 grandchildren, Nicholas and Jonathan Brock, Lauribeth, Aaron, Hannah and Sarah Quigley, Caleb Freeman, Savannah Phelps, C.J. Bray, Maverick Hodge, Noah and Clara Brock, Sommer and Klinton Atchley; two great-grandchildren, Karmin Jade and Jasmine Freeman; and special friend and brother-in-law, Bro. Melvin and Mary Sisson of Somerset, Ky.

Visitation will be Monday, December 9 after 5 p.m. in the Memory Chapel of

Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Lawson, Bro. Gary Whitaker, and Bro. Melvin Sisson officiating.

Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery.

Southern Oaks Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

  • Viola Nichols

    Viola Keith Nicholas was born Sept. 5, 1921 to the late William and Alice Jones Keith and she departed this life to her eternal home on April 7, 2014, having attained the age of 92 years.
    She was a devoted wife to the late Wesley Nicholas for 50 years. She was a faithful member at Grave Hill Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School class for many years. She retired from the Pulaski County Board of Education. After retirement she served as a foster grandparent at Oakwood Training Facility for special needs children. She also volunteered at the Burnside Elementary preschool program, giving her time, talents and love to the 3 and 4 year old children whom she adored.
    Viola is survived by two daughters, Diana (and Austin) Alton, and Tana (and Tom) Chesney; one son, Rex Nicholas; and three brothers, Robert (and Barbara) Keith, Danny (and Ann) Keith, and David (and Ellen) Keith.  
    She was also blessed with many grandchildren and all were special to her.
    Other than her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Nicholas and Gale Nicholas; two grandsons, Ricky Alton and Michael Nicholas; a granddaughter, Karen Alton Cogdill; and the following siblings: Alicie Super, Emerine Neeley, Mattie Keith, Maggie Godsey, Bertha Duncan, Clara Helton, Otis Keith, Clora Hardwick, Vergie Keith, Grover Keith, Mertie Yeskie, Lowell Keith, Joyce Sellers, Bill Keith, and Jim Keith; and the following step-siblings: Murphy Owens, Geneva Hill, Louise Fritts, and Reva Jones.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Darry Hatfield and Bro. Doyle Worley officiating.
    Burial will follow in the Grave Hill Cemetery.
    The family of Mrs. Viola Keith Nicholas will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The Grave Hill Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 85, Tateville, Ky. 42558, or Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, Ky. 42503.
    Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be in charge of all arrangements for Mrs. Viola Keith Nicholas.
