James Burkett
James C. "Jimmy" Burkett, 68, a lifelong resident of Somerset passed away on Monday November 25, 2013 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital following a brief illness.  
He was born in Somerset, Ky., on September 22, 1945 to the late Henry T. and Lillie M. Bland Burkett.  He was united in marriage to Patsy Blevins on November 18, 1967 in Somerset, Ky. To this union was born two daughters, Melissa Phelps (and Dusty), Somerset, Ky., and Jennifer Campbell (and David) London, Ky. He was blessed with four wonderful grandchildren, Noah A.,  Jacob, Samuel Phelps and Gracie Campbell.  
Jimmy is survived by a brother, William "Bill" Burkett, and one sister Irene Boyer, both of Somerset.  Jimmy is also survived by a special niece April Meece and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Eyvind and his wife Lillian; sisters Alodine and her husband
Delrue Bland, Genice and her husband Wilson Mink, and Onieda and her husband Don Whitaker and Jean Burkett. Two nieces and nephews also preceded him in death.  
Jimmy was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a former Sunday School teacher and Church bus driver. In his leisure he could be found studying his bible. He enjoyed life was always happy, an optimist and had a great spirit. He was a loyal and devoted husband, father, brother and an outstanding Papaw. He was loved by all who knew him.  He also enjoyed hunting, caring for his animals,  besides being a talented  and meticulous masonry contractor he enjoyed carpentry. Jimmy was an avid Kentucky Wildcat fan.  
Visitation for Jimmy will be held Friday, November 29, 2013 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the chapel of Somerset Undertaking and Crematory.
A service celebrating the life of James C. "Jimmy" Burkett will be held on Saturday November 30, 2013 in the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Co. and Crematory at 11 a.m. with brothers Danny Pace and Don Jones officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.   
Pall Bearers will be Danny Mink, Jared Mink, Darron Burkett, Billy Burkett, Ricky Mink, Jerry Burkett, Jr.  Chuck Girdler and Eddie Bill Ping.  
The family has requested that expressions of sympathy make take the form of contributions to the
Immanuel Baptist Church, 808 Bourne Ave., Somerset, Ky., 42501.
 
Edna Phelps
Edna Pearl Phelps, 97, of the Barnesburg Community, departed this life on Monday, November 25, 2013 at her residence.
Visitation for Edna Phelps will be on Friday, November 29, 2013 at 5 p.m. at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.  
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Lake
Cumberland Funeral Home.  
Bro. Tony Hall and Bro. Austin Campbell will officiate the service.  
Interment will be in Barnesburg Cemetery.  
The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to Barnesburg Baptist Church or Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Shannon Simpson
Shannon Rae Shepherd Simpson, 44, of Science Hill, Ky., passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at Jean Waddle Care Center, Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She was born in Lexington, Kentucky on April 27, 1969, daughter of Brenda Gail Dalton Shepherd and the late William "O. Shep" Shepherd. She was a former loan officer for Tri-County Mortgage and a member of Science Hill Christian Church. 
She is survived by her mother, Brenda Gail Shepherd of Science Hill; one brother, William Jared (and Alisha) Shepherd of Science Hill; one sister, Billie Gail Shepherd Martin (and Ryan) of Somerset; niece Lilly-Ann Young; nephew Daniel Young; two goddaughters, Nikki Dalton and Kristen Dalton; and a host of other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, William "O. Shep" Shepherd; maternal grandparents, Lewis and Irene Dalton; and paternal grandparents, William T. and Jessamine Shepherd.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Gordy Prather and Bro. Charles Lucas officiating.
Burial will be in Science Hill Cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Shannon Rae Shepherd Simpson Memorial Fund.
