Elza Whittle

Elza Whittle, 82, of Nancy, Ky., departed this life on Monday, September 30, 2013 at his residence.

Elza was born on April 4, 1931 in Nancy, Ky., to the late Ray and Etta Hudson Whittle.  He served in the U.S. Army and retired from General Motors.  He loved horse racing, Nascar, fishing and cookouts with lots of Bluegrass music.

He is survived by three sons, Terry Whittle of Laura, Ohio, Donny (and Robin) Whittle of Bronston, Ky., and Ray Jr., Whittle of Calif.; a grandson, Dale (and Heather) Whittle of Johnson City, Tenn. (whom he raised as a son); three daughters, Vanessa Santory of Los Angeles, Calif., Debra Ponce of Los Angeles,

Calif., and Shelia (and Joe) Herold of Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Jimmy (and Teresa) Whittle of Nancy, Ky.; three sisters, Bonnie Loper of Laura, Ohio, Judy Whittle of Nancy, Ky., and Sue (and Jim) Truesdale of Nancy, Ky.; special nephews, Lee (and Carol) Sandy of Waynesville, Ohio, Louis Whittle of Waveland, Miss., Johnnie (and Sharon) Loper of Laura, Ohio, Carter (Carol and Enoch) Whittle of Shopville, Ky., and Dennis Wilson — his "git r done" man.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother Bertha McCellan Whittle; first wife Anna and second wife Ruth; seven brothers, Ray Jr., Charles, Ed, JC, Roy, Lawrence and Jesse Whittle; and four sisters, Christine, Faye, Mary Lois and Mae.

You didn't have to talk to Elza long before his great-granddaughter's name was mentioned, Alexis "Toot Toot" Whittle. He referred to her as his "Baby Girl" and loved her with all his heart.  Elza also loved the Lord, and in his last days each breath was a struggle, yet one could hear him praying

each night.  Most of his life he worked two jobs, yet money meant nothing to him. If a family member or friend fell upon hardship, Elza would empty his wallet, without expecting or desiring to recoup.  His work on earth is done. He was repaid in full, and came forth like gold as he stood before his Lord and Saviour on Monday, September 30, 2013.

Visitation will be today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home

His funeral service will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Mullins officiating.

Military honors to be conducted by American Legion Post 38.

Burial will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery.

The family request expressions of sympathy can be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Lake Cumberland Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Elza Whittle
