Somerset — Rev. Warren Carroll

The Rev. Warren Carroll, beloved pastor and member of the community and son of the late Samuel and Nola Alice Bullock Carroll, was born at Public, Ky., on June 21, 1921. He departed this life on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the age of 92 years.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 73 years, Hattie Molee Smith Carroll, whom he married on May 11, 1940.  Other survivors include two sons, Jim Carroll of Smithville, Tenn., and Danny (and Kathy) Carroll of Somerset, Ky.; three grandchildren, Jay (and Sondra) Carroll of Hamilton, Ohio,  Michelle Carroll of Mason, Ohio and James Daniel (and Joy) Carroll of Somerset, Ky.; six great grandchildren, Dale Becker, Madison Becker, Alex Becker, Kenny Carroll, Megan Carroll, and Molee Belle Carroll; one brother, Willard Carroll of Washington State, and one sister, Bea Chaney of London, KY.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lura Taylor.

Rev. Carroll was a Baptist minister for more than 47 years, pastoring many churches in Ohio and Kentucky, and holding revivals in many more. He also spent 16 years as an instructor at the Cumberland Baptist Institute helping educate future ministers.

Rev. Carroll had a distinguished military career during World War II, flying 27 bombing missions over enemy territory. He also was honored as a Kentucky Colonel. He was a kind person who was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing and celebrate his going home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Rev. Eugene Tarter officiating.  

Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery at Nancy, Ky.

Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 38.

The family of Rev. Warren Carroll received friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014.

Ola Hargis

Ola B. Hargis, 81, of Somerset, departed this life on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 1:00pm at the funeral home chapel. Bro Randy Wiles will officiate the funeral service.  

nterment will be in Malvin Hill Cemetery.

Larry Ping

Larry Eugene Ping, 45, of Somerset passed away on March 15, 2014 at his residence.

Larry was born in Chicago, Ill. on May 20, 1968 to the late Harrison Lee and Juanita Rose Ping. He enjoyed wrestling, watching UK Basketball, and watching Moonshiners. He loved spending time with his friends and family.

Larry leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Kathy Marlene Ping, whom he married on January 21, 2006 in Somerset; step-sons, Timmy McMullin of Tateville, Joey Lee Hammock of Bowling Green, and Terry Dewayne Hammock of Monticello; his daughter, Tracy Gregory of Tennessee and step-daughter Kathy Lewis of Tateville; brothers Russell (and Wanda) Rose of Eubank, Bruce (and Debbie) Rose of Eubank, Ricky Joe Ping of Joliet, Ill., and Michael Douglas Ping of Florida; sister Elizabeth Caldwell of Russell Springs; grandchildren Alissa Lewis and Alexa Lewis; along with a special granddaughter, Cheyanne King; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert Wayne Ping.

Visitation for Mr. Ping will be Thursday March 20, 2014 at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be Friday March 21, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Bro. Bradley Goforth officiating. Interment will follow in the Bronston Cemetery.

Sammy Bruce, Kenny Bruce, Joey Hammock, Jeremy Strong, Terry Hammock, Timothy McMullin, Danny Worley, Deroy Conaster will be serving as active pallbearers.

Glenna Renner

Glenna Faye Renner, 69, of Somerset, left this earth to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in her Heavenly home on March 17, 2014, after a short illness.

Glenna Faye Cromer was born at home in Rockcastle County to Ed and Roberta Cromer on December 23, 1945 and went to Pulaski County High School.  She married Robert Gooch of Somerset, who preceded her in death.  She would later marry Larry Renner, of Mount Vernon, who also preceded her in death.

Glenna was also preceded in passing by her father, and a brother, Donnie Ray Cromer.

Glenna is survived by her beloved mother, Roberta Cromer. Holding special memories of their mother near to their hearts forever will be her children, Gina Gaye Haynes, of Lexington, Michael Robert Gooch, of Winchester, and Robin Gail (and Bruce) Orwin, of Somerset. "Nana", as Glenna was known, will be lovingly remembered by grandchildren, Zachary Joe Dick, Jordan Robert Dick, Kaitlin Jo Dick, Jasmine Faith (and Jonathan) Harrell and William Atticus Orwin. Also left with wonderful memories of their Nana are great-grandchildren Ava Noelle Jolie Dick and Jace Riley Dick. Completing her family circle are surviving siblings, Marvin (and Joyce) Cromer, Belva Goff and Barbara (and Carter) Mink, as well as dozens of nephews, nieces, cousins and other family members who Glenna loved dearly.  

The family will miss her wise counsel and advice as well as at family gatherings that made lifetime memories of fun, much laughter, good food and sharing of one another's lives.  

Glenna, a homemaker, was a former employee of the Palm Beach Company of Somerset, and also worked as a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. She loved working in her yard and with her flowers.  She was well known for her legendary fried chicken and country ham. Glenna was admired for her ability to show that "family" is not simply for those who share your bloodline, but those who share their love with you.  She was remarkable in ways unmet by most, extending the branches of her family tree to include anyone who needed love, a home or just a friend.

Visitation will be Thursday morning, March 20, 2014 at 9 a.m. for family and 10 p.m. for the general public at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home in Somerset.  

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. that afternoon at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Glenna's son, Mike Gooch, presenting the eulogy.  

Burial will be in the McKinney Cemetery.

Emma Stephens

Emma Mae Stephens, 57, of Somerset, departed this life on Friday, March 14, 2014 at her residence.

A gathering of family and friends will take place on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.  

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, at the Mill Springs National Cemetery, in Nancy.  Interment will be in Mill Springs National Cemetery.

Beulah Watts

Beulah Pearl Watts, 80, of Bronston, departed this life on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at the Golden Living Center, in Stanford.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.  

A memorial service will follow the gathering at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home chapel.  

Bro. Carter Stewart will officiate the memorial service.

Interment will be in the Bronston Baptist Church Cemetery.
