Somerset — Ines Correll

Ines Alton New Correll, 85, of Science Hill, Ky., passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born in Wayne County, Ky. on Jan. 30, 1928, daughter of the late John S. and Cora Belle Jones New. She was a retired manager for Roses Cafeteria and a member of Pulaski Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sons, Jason Correll of Science Hill, Michael Correll of Danville, Ky., and Manuel Correll of Monticello, Ky.; one brother, Russell New of Loveland, Ohio; six grandchildren, Shannon, Michael, Ami, Manuel, Eddie and Karen; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucien Correll; her parents; four brothers, Loren, Noble, David and Elbern; and two sisters, Bertha Stevens and Stella Morrow.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Gary New officiating.

Burial will be in Pulaski Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. today at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Donations may be made to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.

Lydia Dunn

Lydia J. Dunn, age 53 of Somerset, Ky. passed away Monday Sept. 16, 2013.

She was born on Nov. 24, 1960 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Charles Wendell and Ella Mae Harrison Dunn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James Waylon Dunn and Charles Dunn Jr.; and one sister, Stella Dunn.

She is survived by four children, Roy Wells, Harrison Wells, Ashley Hooker and Gloria Brumley.

A private family service will be held.

Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Hargis

Mary Katherine Hargis, 69, of Eubank, Ky., passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2013 at University of Kentucky Medical Center.

She was born in Rockville, Ind. on Oct. 24, 1943, daughter of the late James and Elsie Farris Smith. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy Hargis of Eubank; one son, Tommy Dale (and Gertie) Hargis of Eubank; three daughters, Kathe (and Paul) Godby and Karen (and Kerry) Bishop, both of Science Hill, and Karrie (and Randy) Ridner of Eubank; one brother, Ernest Smith of Ga.; eight grandchildren, David (and Cindy) Barron, Kim (and Michael) Wilson, T.R. Bishop, Ryan Hargis, Ashley Hargis, Tyler Ridner, Brandi Ridner and Caleb “Little Man” Ridner; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, James Smith, Walter Smith, Glen Smith, Chester Smith and Johnny Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Howard Godby officiating.

Burial will be in Eden Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today, Wednesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

Travis Spears

Travis Denzil Spears, 72, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013 at his residence.

He was born in Bethelridge, Ky. on Sept. 15, 1941, son of the late Earl and Ruthie Godbey Spears. He was a logger and farmer.

He is survived by one son, Tyrone (and Ashley) Bradley of Somerset; a stepdaughter, Rachel Sumpter of Manchester, Ky.; five brothers, James (and Shirley) Spears, Prentice Lee (and Wanda) Spears, Billy Gene (and Diane) Spears, Doie (and Linda) Spears, and Roy Jr. (and Marlene) Spears, all of Ohio; four sisters, Nancy Foster, Betty (and Richard) Mullins, Wanda Garrett and Iva Spears-Clements, all of Bethelridge; special friend, Beverly Sumpter of Somerset; two grandchildren, Devon and Aleah; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Hershel Spears; and three brothers-in-law, Johnnie Taylor, Bobby Foster and Jim Clements.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at Bethelridge United Methodist Church with Bro. Greg Powell and Bro. Gene Sweet officiating.

Burial will be in Bethelridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. today, Wednesday at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.

  • Viola Nichols

    Viola Keith Nicholas was born Sept. 5, 1921 to the late William and Alice Jones Keith and she departed this life to her eternal home on April 7, 2014, having attained the age of 92 years.
    She was a devoted wife to the late Wesley Nicholas for 50 years. She was a faithful member at Grave Hill Baptist Church where she taught the Ladies Sunday School class for many years. She retired from the Pulaski County Board of Education. After retirement she served as a foster grandparent at Oakwood Training Facility for special needs children. She also volunteered at the Burnside Elementary preschool program, giving her time, talents and love to the 3 and 4 year old children whom she adored.
    Viola is survived by two daughters, Diana (and Austin) Alton, and Tana (and Tom) Chesney; one son, Rex Nicholas; and three brothers, Robert (and Barbara) Keith, Danny (and Ann) Keith, and David (and Ellen) Keith.  
    She was also blessed with many grandchildren and all were special to her.
    Other than her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Wayne Nicholas and Gale Nicholas; two grandsons, Ricky Alton and Michael Nicholas; a granddaughter, Karen Alton Cogdill; and the following siblings: Alicie Super, Emerine Neeley, Mattie Keith, Maggie Godsey, Bertha Duncan, Clara Helton, Otis Keith, Clora Hardwick, Vergie Keith, Grover Keith, Mertie Yeskie, Lowell Keith, Joyce Sellers, Bill Keith, and Jim Keith; and the following step-siblings: Murphy Owens, Geneva Hill, Louise Fritts, and Reva Jones.
    Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at the chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Bro. Darry Hatfield and Bro. Doyle Worley officiating.
    Burial will follow in the Grave Hill Cemetery.
    The family of Mrs. Viola Keith Nicholas will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014.
    In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The Grave Hill Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 85, Tateville, Ky. 42558, or Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, Ky. 42503.
