Somerset — Opal Manning

Opal Lee Manning, age 86, of Somerset, Ky. passed away Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

She was born on July 20, 1927 in the Greenwood community in McCreary County, Ky. to the late Lee and Dora Alice Roberts Ballou.

She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith, and she was loving and devoted to her family. Opal demonstrated her strong love and devotion throughout five generations. She was always a devout Christian woman who brought joy, laughter and love to those around her at all times. Opal will be missed by many and loved forever.

She was the widow of Homer Manning.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Brenda Weekley; one brother, Robert Ballou; one sister, Magaline Holloway; one son-in-law, Noble Hampton; and a grandson, Michael Dale Manning.

She is survived by three sons, Jimmy Dale Manning of Somerset, Ky., Gary (Trish) Manning of Norwood, Ohio and Mike (Julie) Manning of Norwood, Ohio; four daughters, Lena Hampton of Somerset, Ky., Barbara (Larry) Calhoun of Somerset, Ky., Sherry (Sammy) Meece of Somerset, Ky. and Tina Manning of Eubank, Ky.; and 13 grandchildren, Tommy Silvers, Terry Silvers, Carol Hampton, Steve Hampton, Becky Calhoun, Jason Manning, Josh Manning, Jamie Manning, Nikki Calhoun, Allen Manning, Cassie LeSar, Chris Manning and Justin Manning.

Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Lakeside Memorial Gardens with Bro. Clyde Strunk officiating.

Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Shadoan

Edward Lee Shadoan, age 65, of Somerset, Ky. passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. in the Remembrance Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Mill Springs National Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 38.

Southern Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Zilpha Wilson

Zilpha Ilene (Polston) Wilson, 86 of Brownsburg, Ind., formerly of Jabez, Ky., departed this life on Sept. 17, 2013 at Brownsburg Nursing and Rehab Center.

Ilene was born July 1, 1927 in Jabez, Ky. to the late Arvel Estel and Flonnie May (McGowan) Polston. Ilene was a member of First Separate Baptist Church of Indianapolis.  

She is survived by her children, David Allen (Denise) Wilson and Tammy Kay (Bryan) Belcher; her grandchildren, Andrea Wilson, Stephanie (Geoff) Wilson-English, Brittany (Doug) Witt, and Vanessa, Hannah, Madison and Emma Belcher; her great-grandchildren, Addison and Troy English, and Emily, Liam and Lily Witt; her siblings, Arlo (Lavern), Albert (Mildred), Clyde (Margaret), Falus (Lois) Polston and Eudene (Wendell) Minton; and her sister-in-law, Patty (Muse) Ruckel.  

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Clay Wilson on March 1, 2009; and a brother, Jerry Lee Polston.

Her visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013  from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. EDT at Calvary Separate Baptist Church in Nancy, Ky. until time for funeral services at 1 p.m. with Bro. Mark Polston officiating.

Burial will be at Mill Springs National Cemetery.
