Obituaries for Sunday, December 1, 2013


He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Earl “Pete” Whitis, Ray Whitis, Kenneth Whitis, Junior Whitis, Garner Whitis; sister, Ella Mae Decker; step-daughter, Jenny Dobbs Smith; nephew, Bennie Lee Decker.
Visitation for Mr. Whitis will be Sunday December 1, 2013 from 1-3 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home. 
Funeral Services will follow at 3 p.m. 
Interment will follow in the Pine Thicket Cemetery with Bro. David Dykes officiating. 
Southern Oaks Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.   
Charles Young
Charles David Young, 63, of Cherry Street, Somerset, passed away Thursday at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.  
He is survived by his mother, Caralie Bruner Young, of London; his wife, Arlene Phelps Young; three children, Charles David Young ll and wife Ashleigh, Sarah Catherine Young Carter and Nathan Whatson and James Ethan Young, all of London, Ky.; two step-children, David Ray Phelps and wife Melony and Ethan Mathew Hughes of Somerset; one brother, John Young and wife Sharon; three sisters, Sabra
Musick, Susan Hampton and husband Jimmy and Sally Hulett and husband T, all of London; his mother-in-law, Goldie Hughes; eight grandchildren, Shey, John, Jacob, Savannah, Isaac, Abby, Leah and Dustin; one great grandchild, Charlee; plus a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Young.
He was a 32nd degree mason with the McKee Lodge, past master, K-9 officer in the military and K-9 officer with Pulaski County Detention Center. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was affiliated with the Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Bowling Funeral Home in London with T Hulett officiating. Military honors will be provided by the local DAV. Burial will follow in the Mill Springs Cemetery at Nancy, Ky.  
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Lee Bruner, Charles David Young ll, James Ethan Young, Logan Helton, Nathan Whatson and David Phelps. Honorary pallbearers will be John and Jacob Young.
