Shellie Eugene Lequire, Jr., age 83, passes away in Somerset
Shellie Eugene Lequire, Jr., age 83, of Nancy, Ky., departed this life on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at The Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset.
He was born on June 9, 1930 in Cromona, Ky. to the late Shellie Eugene and Della Marie Isobelle Lequire, Sr. He served in the U.S. Navy. Shellie married Orlena Ruth Cheek on July 17, 1954 in Indiana. He was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Branch of Somerset. He was an automotive salesman most of his life, was a co-owner of Mandy's Supermarket in Nancy, and he worked at the pro shop at Eagles' Nest Country Club. Shellie loved music, loved to sing karaoke, and he loved the games of golf and basketball. He coached the Nancy Dragons little league football team, and he was a boxing promoter for a time.
He is survived by his wife, Orlena Ruth Lequire; daughters, Deborah Ruth (and Robert Lee) Maloney of Fairfield, Ohio, and Cynthia Ann (and Terry) Ries of Nancy, Ky.; sisters, Kathy (and Bob) Coughenour of Somerset, Ky., and Patricia (and Norman) Stahling of Decatur, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Marsha Frost, Paul Maloney, Sean Maloney, Jeff Maloney, Amanda Cox, Ryan Ries and Ian Ries; and eight great-grandchildren, Bryan Frost, Travis Frost, Julia Frost, Ashleigh Maloney, Addison Maloney, Alivia Maloney, Carson Cox and Kaden Ries.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Franklin Lequire; and an infant sister, Madge Lequire.
Visitation for Mr. Lequire will be on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral service will follow the visitation at 12 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with eulogy reading by Roger Jackson and Bro. Adam Richardson officiating.
Interment will be in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.
Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be members of Shellie's family: Terry Ries, James Cox, Ryan Ries, Ian Ries, Sean Maloney, Paul Maloney, Robert Maloney and Jeff Maloney.

Marshall E. Broyles succumbs at age 92
Marshall E. Broyles, 92, of Somerset, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation.
He was born in the Plato community of Pulaski County on March 9, 1921 to the late Epson Felix Broyles and Ollie Duyck Broyles. He was united in marriage on April 15, 1949 to the late Dessie Bea Nicely Broyles.
Marshall was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having attained the rank of Sergeant. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he returned to his home in Plato, Ky. and later moved to the Fairborn-Dayton, Ohio area. He was employed by the Chrysler Corporation as a Crane Operator for over 30 years. He enjoyed gardening and maintaining his apple orchard. He was a member of the General Baptist Church in Fairborn, Ohio. After retirement, he moved back to Pulaski County.
Marshall is survived by one son, Keith Broyles (Tina) of Shalimar, Fla.
He is also survived by nieces Elizabeth Karen Broyles, Jennifer Flynn, Janie Scruggs and Sandy Burton.
In addition to Marshall's parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Boyd “Buster” Broyles and Glenn Boone Broyles; and one sister, Joyce Kearney.
Visitation for Marshall will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory.
A celebration honoring the life of Marshall will follow at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013 at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking Company and Crematory with Rev. Donald McKinney officiating.
Military honors will be performed by American Legion #38.
Pallbearers will be Keith Broyles, Larry Sword, Darrell Scruggs, David Burton, Ezra Sword and Josh Sword.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Nicely and Mark Nicely.
