David Cordell


David Cordell, 55, Bronston, Ky., passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home in Whitley City, Ky.

Burial will follow in the Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday (today) after 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born on Jan. 23, 1953, in Oneida, Tenn., to Loyd “Pete” Cordell and Sadie Kidd Cordell. Dave was a retired Master Seargant having served in the United States Air Force for 20 years. He was currently employed as manager of the Whitley City Advance Auto Parts Store. He was a member of the Lower Hickory Grove United Baptist Church, but was attending the Calvary Fellowship in Wayne County, Ky. He enjoyed stock car racing, fishing, painting, model cars and airplanes and spending time with his family.

Preceding him in death was his father, Loyd “Pete” Cordell; and a sister, Penny Carter.

Survivors include his mother, Sadie Cordell, Pine Knot, Ky.; his wife, Beverly Crisp Cordell, Bronston, Ky., whom he married on March 24, 1973; two sons, Eric Allen (and his wife, Cassandra) Cordell, Carrollton, Ky., and Loyd Jason (and his wife, Brandy) Cordell , Lenoir, N.C.; a brother, Eddie (and his wife, Joann) Cordell, Revelo, Ky.; a sister, Melissa (and her husband, Sterling) Stanley, Dalton, Ga.; two grandchildren, Gracie Lynn Cordell and Mitchell Austin Cordell; and a great grandchild, Cristian Allen Cordell.
