Joyce Ard will be holding an art show Friday, May 29, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 30, 9 a.m. to noon at the Pulaski County Public Library, 403 South Main St., Somerset.

Ard’s first showing will feature portraits in watercolor, pencil and colored pencil sketches, paintings, poetry, photography, sewing and needle work.

Ard grew up in northern Pulaski County, graduating from Eubank High School and at-tended the University of Kentucky, majoring in art.

She is the daughter of the former Ernest and Opal Webb. She used her artist talents at Auburn University in photography as she managed a photo lab and taught the processing of photos.

She abandoned her artist interest to have a family of four children, using it only in connection with designing clothes, needle work and crafts.

Later she grad-uated from Wes-tern Kentucky University with a degree in educa-tion and taught in Indiana and Pulaski County.

She loves doing art and writing stories about her youth, her chil-dren and for and about her eight grandchildren. She writes poetry about a variety of subjects.

While teaching in the county, Ard often drew sketches of the students and drew sketches for her church family activities.

She drew sketches at the Fall Bazaar and Quilt Show at the First Christian Church in Somerset in 2008.

A few years ago, as she waited on her brother who was under-going treatment for cancer, she would take her drawing pad and draw portrait sketches of patients or waiting family in the waiting rooms, refreshing her talents.

Then she renewed her activities with her art work more enthusiasm and began painting and drawing portraits for her family doctor and others.

There will be an upcoming showing of her work her work May 29 and 30 at the new Pulaski County Library. Hopefully, the children she drew in school, at church activities will attend as well as library patrons, friends and art lovers.
