Commonwealth Journal

Lori Marie Faulkner of Somerset and Matthew James Powell of Louisville were united in marriage Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at 5:30 in the evening at the home of the bride with the Rev. Joel Allen officiating.

Lori is the daughter of Dennis and DeeDee Faulkner of Somerset and Matthew is the son of Jeff and Jean Powell of Louisville.

Noble Powell of Richmond, cousin of the bride and soloist, Sarah Webb of Indianapolis, Ind., friend of the bride, provided nuptial music. Sarah sang “To Make You Feel My Love” by Trisha Yearwood and “I Cross My Heart” by George Strait. Claire Troyer of Lexington, Ky., read I Corinthians 13:1-13.

The bride, escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, wore a strapless white, ivory beaded and sequined sweetheart cut wedding dress and carried a bouquet of orchids, stargazers, tweedia accented with her colors of blue and green ribbon designed by Charles Langford and a handkerchief of her late great-grandmother Sarah Faulkner.

The maid of honor was Laura Frickman of Fort Wright, Ky. The brides-maids were Chandrea Bingham Stevenson of Somerset, Sarah Webb of Indianapolis, Ind., Andrea Burton Roberts of Somerset, and Julie Powell, sister of the groom, of Louisville, Ky.

They wore tea-length green satin dresses and carried a small bouquet of blue hydrangeas.

Ushers were Brett and Cody Faulkner, both of Somerset, brothers of the bride.

Claire Troyer, Jillian Baker and Mimi Massey, all of Lexington, were guest book attendants.

Following the ceremony a cocktail dinner dance reception, catered by Susan Hansford, was held at the same location. The Chessman Band from Nashville, Tenn., provided music.

The multi-flavored four-tiered ivory wedding cake, decorated with the couple’s monogram and gardenias, and the chocolate groom’s cake topped with Rupp Arena UK basketball floor were made by Susan Hansford.

Lori is a 2001 graduate of Pulaski County High School and is currently a fourth-year pharmacy student at the University of Kentucky and will graduate with her doctor of pharmacy in May 2008.

She is employed by Wal-Mart Pharmacy as a graduate intern.

Matthew is a 2001 graduate of Ballard High School and a 2005 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and is currently working on his masters of business administration at Bellarmine University in Louisville.

He is employed by ISCO Industries as an accountant.

The bride is the grand-daughter of George and Grace Faulkner of Williamsburg, Ky., Jan Totten Stull of West End, N.C., and the late Paul Totten of St. Albans, W. Va.

The groom is the grandson of Eva Ziel of Orland Park, Ill., and Charles and Bernice Zaiesiak of Belleview, Fla.

The groom’s parents, Jeff and Jean Powell, hosted the rehearsal dinner at The Harbor Restaurant Friday, August 31, 2007.

Prewedding parties included a bachelor party at Belterra Resort and Casino, a personal shower given by Laura Frickman, Sarah Webb, Chandrea Stevenson, Andrea Roberts and Julie Powell at the Sheraton Suites in Lexington, a bridal shower hosted by Linda Jones, Carol Powell and Susie Shepard in Somerset, and a bachelorette party in Cincinnati.

Others who helped make the day perfect were photographer Tom Wilson, The Mirror Hair Salon, makeup by Kristy Bates, reception coordinator Susie Shepard, floral arrangements by Charles Langford and food catered by Susan Hansford, Roy and Pam Johnson and Trish Tomlison.

Servers were Erin and Julia Benson, Stephanie Totten, Lauren Gilmore, Meredith Fetter and Melissa Simmons, all cousins of the bride.

The happy couple would like to extend a special thanks to all her family and friends who worked so hard to make the day memorable.
