A residence just north of Somerset was completely destroyed in an early morning blaze.

According to Somerset Fire Chief Tyler Jasper, firefighters were called to a home located in Rainbow Terrace, about a mile north of Somerset off Ky. 39, shortly after 12 a.m. Monday.

Jasper said a family lived in the home, and said people were at the trailer when the fire started. Everyone escaped unhurt.

Firefighters were at the scene of the blaze until around 1:15 a.m. Monday. The home was deemed a total loss.

“They lost everything,” said Jasper. “There are still parts (of the home) standing, but it’s done.”

Although Monday’s temperatures weren’t quite as cold as they had been, Jasper said the brisk wind made the situation a little more dangerous, considering the close proximity of the trailers in Rainbow Terrace.

“If the wind is blowing, it can cause the fire to spread to another home,” said Jasper.

Luckily, the blaze did not spread to surrounding homes.

Jasper said it appears the fire started at a heater that was operating in the center of the home. He said he was unsure what type of heater it was, but said it’s most likely the source of the blaze. The mobile home residents only spoke Spanish, which complicated the investigation.

Somerset Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Parkers Mill Fire Department.
