Burnside Fatal Wreck

Emergency personnel were still on scene just before 11 a.m. Monday, reconstructing a fatal collision which occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. 

A woman and her five-year-old granddaughter are dead following a head-on collision that occurred around 6:30 a.m. Monday morning in downtown Burnside.

The accident occurred on the south end of town, near Main Street Baptist Church.

Details are sketchy at press time, as Burnside Police Chief Mike Hill has requested that a reconstruction team from Somerset Police Department examine the scene.

What is known is that the driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced deceased at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Her five-year-old granddaughter was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center  via ambulance, due to weather.

The little girl was pronounced dead at the Lexington hospital. The woman driving the northbound vehicle was transported to LCRH. The extent of her injuries is not known at press time.

Traffic on South US 27 was diverted around the scene with state highway workers directing traffic at the north and south entrances to West Lake Shore Drive.

SPD Det. Larry Patterson is leading the reconstruction team. Chief Hill was also assisted at the scene by Pulaski County Sheriff's deputies, Burnside Fire Department, Tateville Fire Department, Pulaski County Special Response Team and Somerset-Pulaski County EMS.
