Central Kentucky Aquatics (CKA), a regional USA Swim Club that swims out of Russell Springs and Lebanon, competed March 15-17 at the Kentucky 12 & Under Swimming Championships at Ralph Wright Natatorium on the University of Louisville campus. 21 teams across the commonwealth brought their best to the championships.
Four CKA swimmers qualified to compete in the meet. Tobias Misinay of Burnside qualified to swim in eight events at the state championships. Tobias finished 6th in 200 Free, 9th in 500 Free, 10th in 50 Free, 13th in 100 Free, 14th in 200 IM, 15th in 50 Breast, 17th in 100 Breast and 26th in 50 Back -- scoring 38 points for the team with his six final qualifying swims. Blair Brumett of Russell Springs qualified in the 50 Breaststroke and finished 12th -- scoring five points. Karmai Misinay of Burnside finished 26th in the 50 Back Stroke, 28th in 100 Breaststroke and 40th in 100 IM.
Jacob Phillips of Russell Springs scored 133 points for the team and swam his way to the 10 & Under High Point Award at the Kentucky State Championships Meet. He started the weekend off with a 3rd Place finish in the 200 IM, and 5th in the 200 Freestyle on Friday night. On Saturday, Jacob continued his success with a pair of 2nd place finishes in 50 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly. He also finished 6th in the 100 Backstroke. He came back on Sunday determined and captured the State Champion title in 100 Freestyle and 50 Butterfly. He ended the competition with a 3rd place finish in 100 IM. Jacob is the first State Champion for CKA as well as from Russell County.
