A 4-year-old child, who was injured when he was struck by a vehicle on Sycamore Street Thursday night, is listed in fair condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, a spokesman there said.

Little Joshua Griffin of Somerset was airlifted to UK by LifeNet after he was hit by a Hyundal sports utility vehicle.

Griffin was running across Sycamore Street shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday when he ventured into the path of a vehicle, driven by Brandon Botzman, 18, of Somerset, Somerset Police Det. Shannon Smith said.

Smith said Botzman swerved his vehicle when he saw the child running across the street, in an attempt to avoid hitting Griffin. He was too late, striking the child, before the vehicle crashed into a tree on the west side of Sycamore. Botzman was treated by Somerset Fire/EMS, but declined further treatment at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

An investigation is continuing by Somerset Police Department.
