LCRH takes over Cumberland Gastroenterology

Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital continues to grow with the recent acquisition of a well-known specialty practice here in Somerset.

The hospital has announced that it is expanding its gastrointestinal (GI) services through Cumberland Gastroenterlogy, which has been renamed Gastroenterology Associates of Lake Cumberland.

While the office may have a new name, it will continue with the same staff -- led by board-certified physicians Samir Cook, MD; Benjamin Bryson, MD; and Todd Horn, MD -- and in the same MedPark West location.

"Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital is thrilled to partner with such a high quality practice as that developed by Drs. Cook, Horn and Bryson and their physician practice team," hospital CEO Robert Parker stated. "We are very excited to continue the service they have provided over the years and build upon an already terrific foundation."

Gastroenterology Associates of Lake Cumberland is just the latest of LCRH's stand-alone outpatient facilities. Others focus on bariatric services, cancer treatment, diagnostic imaging, outpatient surgery and therapy services, sleep disorders, wound care and hyperbaris medicine. In addition to inpatient services, the 295-bed acute care facility is the first in the region to implement a residency program to train new physicians.

"We are very pleased to have entered into this cooperative agreement with the hospital," Dr. Cook added. "We hope it allows us to better serve our community's needs for many years to come."

Dr. Cook has been serving this community and surrounding counties for 20 years. He graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston McGovern Medical School and completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He then returned to UT Health Science Center to complete his gastroenterology fellowship and upon completion, relocated to Somerset with his family in 1999.

Dr. Horn graduated with High Distinction from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. After completing an internship and accelerated residency in internal medicine at UK, Dr. Horn also completed a three-year fellowship in gastroenterology with special emphasis in advanced endoscopy. During his residency, he was named Internal Medicine Resident of the Year.

Dr. Bryson grew up in nearby London and is a magna cum laude graduate of Western Kentucky University. He earned his medical degree from the UK College of Medicine and completed his residency in internal medicine at UK Chandler Medical Center.

Rounding out the practice are nurse practitioners Angie Stinson, Alisha Cooley, Heather Thompson and Sharon Adams to serve the region's gastroenterology, hepatology and related endoscopy needs. The team is committed to providing patients with the highest quality of care in digestive disease diagnosis, evaluation and management in a safe, patient-friendly and cost-effective environment.

Gastroenterology Associates of Lake Cumberland is located at 56 Tower Circle in Somerset. Existing Cumberland Gastroenterology patients will remain so and need not take any action at this time. New patients are welcome to call 606-677-2913 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays.
