A routine traffic stop early Monday morning resulted in the arrest of a Somerset man suspected of stealing from Goodwill.

Billy G. Baker, 40, was charged with receiving stolen property over $300 and failure to illuminate head lamps. He was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.

The incident began shortly after midnight on Monday, when Somerset Police Officer Larry Patterson stopped Baker’s 1994 Ford pickup, which was traveling on West Columbia Street without head lights.

Patterson discovered 14 garbage bags and two boxes of clothing and other merchandise that had been taken from a nearby Goodwill donation box.

“The Somerset Police Department wants to remind the public that items inside donation centers, such as Goodwill, become the property of that charity,” said Somerset Police Det. Shannon Smith. “Persons who take items from those centers are subject to prosecution.”
