With a comfortable 9-2 lead going into the top of the fifth inning, the Shelter Insurance Orioles sent up 16 batters, pounded out six hits and scored a whopping 13 runs in one winning en route to a 22-8 win over the Ricks Contracting Marlins in Cal Ripken minor league division baseball action on Saturday.

In the fifth inning, alone, Orioles’ Jacob Burchett had two base hits and drove in three runs, while teammate Nathan Adcock hit two doubles and drove in two runs.

The Orioles’ big fifth inning put the Marlins down by 17 runs.

The Marlins did not go away quietly as they loaded the bases on walks in the bottom of the fifth, allowing Hagen Elmore to score off a base on balls force-in. Caleb Gross singled to centerfield to score Zach Coggin and Jacob Pelston.

The Orioles were led in hitting by Burchett, who hit a perfect 3-for-3. Burchett had an inside-the-park homer in the fourth inning that drove in Chris Madden. For the game, Burchett drove in five runs and scored four runs.

Orioles’ Devin Mayne went 2-for-4 and had two RBIs, Chris Madden scored three runs, and Austin Shults scored three runs.

For the Marlins, Caleb Gross had two hits and drove in three runs. Hagen Elmore had a base hit and scored three runs. Zach Coggin scored two runs.

The Orioles will be back in action on Tuesday, May 22, when they take on the Cardinals at 6 p.m. The Marlins will return to the diamond on Friday, May 25, when they take on the Reds at 7:30 p.m.
