A Science Hill woman was killed as a result of a traffic accident Sunday afternoon on the Ky. 914 bypass.
According to the Somerset Police Department, officers responded to a report of an accident at 12:50 p.m. at the intersection of East Ky. 914 and Enterprise Drive.
There, they learned that a green 1993 Geo Prizm, driven by Austin Roark, 19, of Somerset was eastbound on the bypass and was approaching the intersection with Enterprise Drive, while at the same time, a white 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Opal H. Bryant, 81, of Science Hill, was northbound on Enterprise Drive.
Witnesses told police that the Malibu pulled into the path of the Prizm, causing it to strike the Malibu on the driver’s side, according to police.
The impact caused both vehicles to come to rest in the roadway.
Both drivers were treated at the scene by Somerset-Pulaski County EMS, as well as Roark’s passenger, Whitney Roark, 21, also of Somerset.
All three were then transported to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Bryant was pronounced dead by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office at 9:55 p.m. Sunday at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Pulaski County Coroner Clyde Strunk said that the cause of death was blunt force trauma.
The Somerset Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Somerset-Pulaski County EMS, the Somerset Fire Department, and with traffic control by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.
The scene was cleared and opened for traffic about an hour later.
The collision is being investigated by Officer Katrina Masters.
