Burnside Fatal Wreck

Emergency personnel were still on scene just before 11 a.m. Monday, reconstructing a fatal collision which occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m.

The identities of the drivers involved in a fatal collision Monday morning in Burnside have been released.

Deanna Jean Chaney, 42, of Eubank, was southbound on US 27 in a 2007 Chrysler van when she was struck head on by a northbound 2012 Kia SUV driven by Brandy C. Montgomery, 41, of Pine Knot, Ky.

The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. in downtown Burnside near the Main Street Baptist Church.

Burnside Police Chief Mike Hill was the first to respond along with deputies of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office. Upon arrival, preliminary investigation indicated that the Kia apparently crossed into the southbound lane — striking the Chrysler.

Montgomery was treated at the scene and transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital by Somerset-Pulaski County EMS. She was later transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Chaney was also transported to LCRH where she was pronounced deceased by Pulaski County Deputy Coroner Gerald Collingsworth.

Chaney's five-year-old granddaughter was a passenger in the Chrysler van. She was treated at the scene by EMS and transported directly to UK where she later was declared deceased by the Fayette County Coroner's Office.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Burnside Police Department with assistance from the Somerset Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team.

Law enforcement was assisted at the scene by the Burnside Fire Department, Tateville Fire Department and the Pulaski County Hazmat Special Response Team (SRT).
