Dear Editor:
Since the announcement of the proposed bio-hazard research facility here in Pulaski County, I’ve been trying to sort out my thoughts on the issue.
After Sept. 11, 2001, I assumed that homeland security was our government’s top priority. I fail to see how locating the country’s most lethal pathogen laboratory in our community is going to enhance security in Pulaski County.
Aside from being an inviting target for terrorists, mistakes do happen. An accident at this lab would be catastrophic beyond our imagination.
I appreciate Congressman Rogers’ efforts on behalf of our economic development, but his priorities are misplaced on this matter.
Homeland security begins at home.
