Pulaski County High School baseball coach Josh Anderson gets doused with water last year after winning the 2018 47th District Baseball Tournament. Local softball and baseball teams will begin district tournament play on Saturday, May 18.

The 'Real Season' has begun, as local teams start play in their respective post-season tournaments. Both baseball and softball begin their district tournaments on Saturday, May 18.

The 47th District Baseball and Softball Tournaments will be played at Pulaski County High School, while the 48th District Tournaments will be played at McCreary Central High School.

The winners and runner-ups in each district tournament will advance to the 12th Region Tournament, which will begin next weekend.

47th District Baseball Tournament

Right off the bat, Somerset and Pulaski County will battle each other in the opening round of the tournament, as one local team will advance and the other will end their season on Saturday. The two local teams will collide at 5 p.m., on Saturday, May 18. The winner of that game will advance to the district championship game, to be played at 6 p.m., on Sunday, May 19.

Somerset swept Pulaski County in their two previous regular-season meetings. Somerset won 9-4, and 5-3 in back-to-back games just a little over two weeks ago. The winner of that game will, more than likely, square off with the one-seed Rockcastle County.

Interesting enough, Somerset lost both of their games to the Rockets (6-1, 14-5) while Pulaski County split their two games with Rockcastle County. The Maroons beat Rock 4-3, and lost to Rock 5-3.

47th District Softball Tournament

Somerset and Pulaski County will play in opposite sides of the bracket in the softball tourney. Somerset (three seed) will battle Rockcastle County (two seed) at 4:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 18, while Pulaski County (one seed) will play Casey County (four seed) at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday.

Pulaski County is undefeated in district play and had no problems with Casey County in their prior two meetings, as the Lady Maroons downed the Lady Rebels 11-2 and 22-14. However, Somerset lost both of their games to Rockcastle County in regular season by scores of 11-3 and 10-0.

Like the baseball tourney, the softball finals will be played on Sunday, May 19, at 6 p.m.

48th District Baseball Tournament

Southwestern has the luxury of playing in the championship game after coping the top-seed in a three-team district. Wayne County and McCreary Central will play each other on Saturday, May 18, at 7 p.m., with the winner taking on Southwestern on Monday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m.

Southwestern easily downed McCreary Central in their two regular season games by scores of 11-1 and 9-4. However, the Warriors split their two games with Wayne County this season. Southwestern won at home 4-0, but lost at Wayne County by a score of 6-5.

There is more than just a gold district tournament trophy on the line this season, as the winner of the 48th Tournament will get to host the 12th Region Baseball Tournament.

48th District Softball Tournament

The Lady Warriors softball team posted a perfect record in 48th District play, and will await their opponent in the championship game. Wayne County and McCreary Central will play on Saturday, May 18, at 5:30 p.m. Southwestern will play the winner of that game on Tuesday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m.

Southwestern beat Wayne County in regular season by scores of 15-0 and 18-1. The Lady Warriors also beat McCreary Central in both games by scores of 9-0 and 15-0.
