Burgess wins 3 region titles

Somerset High School sophomore Kendall Burgess won three individual titles in the Class A Region Track and Field Championships on Thursday at the University of the Cumberlands. Burgess scored a meet-high 38 points and led her Lady Jumpers to a region runner-up team finish.

 

WILLIAMSBURG - Somerset High School sophomore Kendall Burgess won three region track titles, and scored a meet-high 38 points to help lead her Lady Jumpers to a Class A Region 6 team runner-up finish on Thursday at the University of the Cumberlands.

Burgess won the girls long jump with a leap of 17'04.25", which was three feet better than nearest competitor. Burgess won the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.88, and won the triple jump with a best of 36'0". Burgess placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.26.

The Somerset girls track team scored 151 points, and placed second to Williamsburg's 169 points. Besides Burgess' meet-high point total, Audrey Anderson scored 22.5 points, Lauren Foutch scored 19.5 points, and Madison Garland scored 18 points. All four of these Lady Jumpers won individual regional crowns.

The Somerset boys track team placed third with 55 points.

Senior Audrey Anderson won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.22, and placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.89.

Somerset junior Lauren Foutch won the girls discus event with a best of 101'11", and placed second in the shot put with a best of 31'04".

Somerset sophomore Madison Garland won the shot put with a best of 32'08", and placed third in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.06, and placed fifth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.27.

Somerset senior Will Perkins, who scored 18 points for the Briar Jumpers' boys team, won the discus with a best of 127'01", and placed second in the shot put with a best of 41'07".

Somerset High School senior Payton Ellison won the boys high jump with a best of 6'02".

The Somerset girls 800-meter relay team of Audrey Anderson, Addi Bowling, Emily Ham, and Jocelyn May won a regional title with a best time of 1:56.03.

Somerset sophomore Lexie Herndon placed second in the girls high jump with a best of 4'08".

Somerset sophomore Addi Bowling placed fourth in the girls 400-meter run with a time of 65.31, and placed fifth in the long jump with a best of 13'08.5".

Somerset sophomore Cole Blakeman placed third in the boys pole vault with a best clearance of 9'0".

Somerset junior Jayden Gilmore placed second in the boys triple jump with a best of 39'04.5", and placed fifth in the long jump with a best mark of 18'11".

Somerset sophomore Trinity Burkett placed fifth in the girls discus with a best of 79'07".

Somerset freshman Lucy McArthur placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:40.8.

In the girls 3200-meter run, Somerset sophomore Angelica Hernandez placed fourth with a time of 15:17.6, and junior Ashley Holt placed sixth with a time of 16:35.6.

Freshman Emily Ham placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a 19.30 clocking.

The Somerset girls 400-meter relay team of Audrey Anderson, Emily Ham, Addi Bowling and Jocelyn May placed second with a time of 55.55.

The Somerset girls 3200-meter relay team of Lauren Foutch, Kennedy Boots, Ashley Holt, and Lucy McArthur placed third with a time of 12:24.8.

The Somerset boys 3200-meter relay team of Derek Arias, Jared Bastin, Joseph Crabtree, and Tristan Gray placed third with a time of 9:41.9.

The top two finishers in each event automatically qualified for the KHSAA Class A State Track Championships, to be held on Thursday, May 30, at the University of Kentucky.
