The Lady Jumper volleyball team traveled to Liberty on Thursday night to take on Casey Co. and escaped with a 2-1 victory. In what would be a close contest all night long, the Lady Jumpers were able to make just enough plays down the stretch to scratch out a win.

Game one was a back-and-forth battle as both teams struggled to find the range from the serve line. With the score tied at 10-10, Senior Sarah Flowers would push the Lady Jumpers out to a 5 point lead with 5 service winners including one ace. The Lady Rebels would pull to within 2 at 19-17 before junior Breā€™Anna Jones put the match away with 5 points of her own for the serve line ending the game 25-17.

Somerset would control much of game two behind the hitting and blocking of senior Caiti Cowan as she tallied 4 kills and 2 blocks in the game. But with Somerset leading 20-17, the wheels would fall off for the Lady Jumpers. One unforced error and one service error would start Casey Co. on an 8-1 run that stole game two from the visitors at 25-21.

In the third and deciding game of the match, both teams would trade the lead and the momentum. Somerset got off to a fast start forcing a Lady Rebel timeout trailing 6-2. Casey County would rebound after the slow beginning and tie the game at 10-10. Somerset would answer with a mini-run of its own and take a 19-15 lead. But once again Casey Co. would answer with a 7-2 run to take a 22-21 lead late in game three. With the game tied at 22-22, Caiti Cowan would once again step to the service line this time with the match hanging in the balance. She would calmly strike three service winners the last one an ace to seal the deal for the lady Jumpers 25-22.

Somerset was lead in scoring on the night by Caiti Cowan with 4 aces, 8 kills, and 3 blocks and Sara Flowers with 6 assists. The Lady Jumpers return to action next Monday night when they host the Monticello Lady Trojans. Game time is 7 p.m.
